EICR required for Part P installations?

OP you may find that the scheme has additional requirements above and beyond what the regs require. By becoming a member of the scheme you may have unwittingly agreed to certain conditions and that's what they are now stating. If you don't follow their "rules" you may void your membership. I've...

Great T&E direct underground. Its only 110V what could go wrong.

Its only telecom cable. Worst that happens is the phone stops working.

    Minor Predicament over RFC Length

Never had to deal with such long runs as that. Wouldn't one option be to run say a 10mm tail from the broad to closer to the ruing and then run the ring from the end of the 10mm tail? You'll lose less VD over the 10mm than you would over 2 X 2.5 (you'll lose half as much in fact)

    Help with 2395

Phase sequence is important when powering 3 phase motors. Also on large installations flori lighting may well be spread across phases so you'd need to check the phases are correctly identified to ensure a balanced distribution. Testing is via a phase sequencer (could be part of an MFT) and...

Isn't it? Oh well please ignore my previous post..

Powering a hot tub off a 13A socket..

I've got a hot tub (uses more than 13A!) Note that the heater isn't the only current draw. When the heaters on the pump runs and they can be juicy as well. Mine tended to trip when it started up as there was a peak draw. Ok on a fuse but on a breaker near its limit you may get tripping.

    Adding sockets to RFC

Yes I'd guess heat shrink. I prefer a silicone rubber tube first over the connector then the heat shrink. The heatshrink can get a bit thin on the edges of the crimp.

    Shocked/buzzed by shower faucet

A lot of modern kit like PCs have mains filters that filter to earth so some leakage is expected. It could also be an induced current caused by cables running in parallel or close to unearthed pipework. That could also explain why you see a voltage with respect to earth at the showerhead.

    Drilling joists

At floor level in the new space the new 6" joists are more than 2" above the old rafters so no issues with cabling. Its the new dormer ceiling. The original sloping roof of 4" rafters has had 2* extra added to make 6" but I won't drill anything there as I can access from below or above. Its only...

    Shocked/buzzed by shower faucet

Voltage doesn't exist in one place. Voltage is a potential between 2 points. When you put your voltmeter between you and the showerhead to get a reading a circuit must exist. So you must be contact with something that has a relationship with the showerhead in terms of a conductive path. Not to...

    Drilling joists

Just glanced through Part A but couldn't see any thing relevant. Have found a number of Building control documents on line and they state the joist/rafter needs to be calculated re any reduction in strength. But generally it looks like stick to the centre. I guess that element over rides the...

Ah that's right. Rafters. No mention of that in OSG so all good :-)

    Drilling joists

The top section of the dormer walls is doubled up 6" joists and on top of that will go 1" celotex insulation. I can't bury or sink the cable into that joist (and be within 150mm) It would have to be surface mounted and then the 1" insulation board would have to be rebated on the rear to allow...

    Drilling joists

This is in the dormer flat roof. Fire alarm and light fittings. Lots of joists and noggins. No practical access upwards just across.

    Drilling joists

The only thing the joists hold up is the dormer flat roof. But I'll speak to the BC as they are onsite. I assume folks normally drill as per OSG and the insulation guys chop up their insulation to fit (thereby reducing the building reg requirements for the insulation....)

    Drilling joists

Doing a loft conversion and wondering about joist drilling. OSG states to drill in the middle of the joist 0.25 to 0.4 of joist length. I have 6" joists but the bottom 4" will be filled with 100mm celotex so If I drill at half way my cabling will be in the way of the insulation. It makes more...

    2394 exam

I took my 2394 and 2395 the same afternoon a few weeks back (and passed) all done on a computer. Written yes but typed in boxes. There was a drawing to name the relevant parts.
