    Immersion heater wiring

Many thanks for taking the time to reply, much appreciated.

    Immersion heater wiring

It's white round cable, I'm guessing 1.5mm2 and it looks the same as the heat-resistant cable I had on the heater in my last house. Cheers

    Immersion heater wiring

I've recently moved into a house and would like to check please whether an immersion heater that looks recently fitted has been correctly wired. It's rated at 3Kw and is wired with 2.5mm2 cable from a 16a MCB. The isolator switch is embossed 'immersion heater' and matches the images of 20a...

UK Live for one cable connected to the neutral of an adjacent cable?

It appears a sparks has connected the live of one lighting circuit cable to the neutral of an adjacent cable using a cable connector in order to obtain a power supply? The circuit has worked fine for 2 or 3 years but has now failed. While the cable triggers the NCV there is no current or...

    Potential overload of ring mains

It alre It already is! So looking at solar panels too.........(pricey!)

    Potential overload of ring mains

Yes, take your point - I've lodged an enquiry with Power Networks as to feasibility. No I hadn't thought of LPG boiler - funnily enough there was an old one here when we moved in which wasn't in use and we had it removed. Issue here really is the space required for tanks/boiler, but it's worth...

    Potential overload of ring mains

Understood - is a 3-ph an essential part of the solution? You can get 15Kw single phase pool heaters I'm told.

    Potential overload of ring mains

Next issue - even in this weather, with electric heaters on a lot, no tripping at all. But - we are looking at heating the pool, which would take at least 15Kw elec heater (no gas/oil). There is a 60a supply (single phase) to pool house which drives pump and heat exchanger (which apparently only...

Sorry for late reply. bought a cheap one off amazon, but does the job. thanks for your offer.

    Potential overload of ring mains

Can't find a Flexiclamp 200 anywhere, even Ebay. I guess one might come up sometime, in the meantime I'll go for the cheapo Amazon one - thanks Taylortwocities for the advice re ohter influences

    Potential overload of ring mains

Thanks again for the suggestions, I'll have a look at the Flexiclamp. Yes that's right about the 'efficiency' claims. I got the impression that Haverland were suggesting they could produce more heat per amp, but how you would measure that I'm not sure, without some sort of comparison. They...

    Potential overload of ring mains

Thanks for the suggestions, some good ones there. CU might be the best bet, though space is a little limited. I also thought you needed to avoid close proximity to other conductors as that might affect the magnetic field. I'll go for the cheap clamp meter off Amazon and experiment - though as I...

    OK, thanks for your help.

    Potential overload of ring mains

I hadn't thought about the sockets - presumably you'd need a plug-in module with split cables attached? Cheers

    Potential overload of ring mains

Maybe the idea is a flexible adapter, a hoop you can unplug and pass behind the conductor and then re-plug, pushing the banana plugs at the other end of the adapter into your multimeter. Not cheap at £100+ though.

    Potential overload of ring mains

Had a look at clamp meters, great solution except you can only clamp individual conductors - apart from a Megger model which doesn't seem available any more. Individual conductors are only accessible in the CU, not sure if you could get the clamp in there. Splitting cables doesn't seem an easy...

    That's a good idea, thanks!

    Potential overload of ring mains

Well, Christmas over, with a house full, immersions on, all heating turned up, two ovens on etc etc, and not a hint of a problem. So I guess I'll just go with it for the foreseeable until and unless anything does happen. Bearing in mind we've had a few cold snaps, including the last couple of...

    Potential overload of ring mains

No not really - apparently the electricity does trip occasionally but sounds more like power cuts, during storms etc.

    Potential overload of ring mains

Yes they are Haverlands. I've looked them up and they are thermostatic programmable, very efficient etc etc.
