Yes, of course I noticed the position of the CU prior to isolation. What I did not notice was the slight dipping of the ceiling. The cover can be removed but only about 15mm before it is jammed between the ceiling and the top of the kitchen cupboard.
For small jobs I use easifill, brilliant stuff. On deeper/ larger areas i use hardwall then final skim with easifill. Easifill is really easy to sand and get a good finish.
