Thanks MarkieSparkie... exactly what i thought, just wanted to confirm.
Little bit out of date with certain things, just wanted to refresh my mind... :-)
Okay this is what i already have... Meter 100 amp cutout> 1mtr of 16.0mm tails > old 70 amp D/pole mcb Dorman Smith Loadmaster BS 3871> 5-6mtrs of 16.0mm twin/earth cable> then CU. (3 bed house)
It was highlighted to me from another electrician to me, who carried out a periodic that the cable...
If your CU is 6 mtrs away from the main incomer and all the cabling is 25mm, can you get away with just having an isolator installed within the 3mtrs from the meter/cutout or is that frowned upon by the DNO. What i mean is do they expect you to have switched fused protection on your side...
The ground/soil in that area will mostly be in the shade, which should have a better soil resistivity apparently.
Northern hemisphere countries only though...lol
Will they supply an earth block where i can fit my 2x main bonding conductors into aswell....lol? Because im not taking them back to the CU as that is 6 mtrs from the meter cupboard which also houses the gas meter.
Thanks for the pic by the way! It seems to me they solder there side, to rid...
Years ago i had a problem with a high Ze on a TT plus rod not installed very well....drove in 3x heavy duty rods screwed together and got the reading down to 30 ohms.
Also another electrician told me that it helps to install a rod on the north facing side of a building.... if thats an option...
Have the obvious things been checked.....is the cable connection to the earth rod okay, correct earth rod clamp used, installed correctly and protected by an earth inspection pit,is it in a suitable location for the existing rod and also does the rod feel loose in the ground..... etc
Maybe...
Thanks for the reply Guitarist, but why the soldered connector block.....why not just a 16.0mm earth from the head into a standard MET which is screw terminated? Or have i misunderstood what you are saying...
I want to upgrade the main protective bonding conductors on the gas/water from 6.0mm to 10mm.
Its a bit frustrating when the original bonding condutors along with the main earthing conductor are all conected into an earthing terminal, which is in the side of the main service head....which means...
Yes its all on 1x ring circuit with 1 or 2 spurs off ring which you can see have been installed by DIYers in the past.
What you have said about spurs dropped for skts i have seen years ago.
The house i live in was built approx 1980 which is a terraced 3 bed and was a council built property.
I would plug appliances into single skts below the worktop, controlled by 20amp double pole switches above the worktop off the FRC, so that the appliance can easily be removed.
Just want to say thanks for the replies.
The only problem is the existing 1x FRC for the entire house is wired in such a way, where it goes downstairs to a skt then back upstairs to another skt and then downtairs again......etc
So even though i agree it would be good to split the house into at...
The CU was installed when it was built with the old Dorman Smith circuit breakers fitted (ex council property) and the 50amp cooker circuit only has a 2.2kw single fan assisted oven attached, which is plugged into a single skt where the cooker outlet once was, so at least someone has thought...
Haven't been in the domestic side of things for a while....
I own a standard 3 bed house which is 30 yrs old
1x 50 amp cooker
1x 30amp RFC (for entire house)
1x 15amp immersion heater
1x 5amp upstairs lights
1x 5amp downstairs lights
Going to add and move sockets in kitchen....
In the past...
Update
The sellers will let us carry out a full PIR, but we have to pay for it.......considering they had electrical works carried out with no EIC done and more than likely no RCD protection on the circuits etc
My only worry is if any remedial work is required out of this we will have to pay...
Firstly i would just like to say thanks for the comments......
Sellers solicitors have replied saying no PIR can be carried out until exchange of contracts, basically your problem and your paying for it, also no movement on house price.......
How do you get what you so rightly deserve...?
Trying to buy a house at the moment......i haven't worked in the domestic side of things for a while now so im not 100% sure about everything.
The sellers have declared on the property information form, that electrical wiring was carried out in 2010 and the whereabouts of the EIC is...
