Adding a Fuse Spur on to a Consumer Unit Circuit

Socket circuit has a switch fuse spur that then has our unswitched fuse spur added on to it. As far as I know you can’t do. I’m not sure what the spur from the live side even relates to.

Adding a Fuse Spur on to a Consumer Unit Circuit

One of the ones today was it’s okay for our alarm panel to work from a switched FCU to a unswitched FCU as long as it’s spurred from the live side! 🤯 I just didn’t have the heart to tell him that he was talking absolute rubbish.

Ever feel as though your being setup to fail.

If I wasn’t in the position of buying a flat I would of jumped ship. You’ve got to love some of the people you work with. One of the ones today was it’s okay for our alarm panel to work from a switched FCU to a unswitched FCU as long as it’s spurred from the live side! 🤯 I just didn’t have the...

Ever feel as though your being setup to fail.

Regarding the if I’m happy doing the job. It’s okay and I prefer doing the CCTV side of it and wouldn’t mind moving into Home Automation. There isn’t many companies around Liverpool that do it as a service. It’s expensive and specialist. I do have my Level 2 and 3 2365 and only moved to Fire and...

Ever feel as though your being setup to fail.

No apparently they booked other jobs in. As the supervisor said it should take half a day after a brief but short visit.

Ever feel as though your being setup to fail.

I probably won’t change their minds. As they aren’t open to suggestions. I do try and plan the jobs but when your given no real spec and a hopeless deadline, only so much can be done. Also pay is not even salary it’s NMW. Expecting an awful lot for min wage. Even an engineer when I mentioned it...

Ever feel as though your being setup to fail.

I agree with that everyone is saying. Our place have the habit of thinking I should work to the same speed as someone with over 20 years experience. Which I’ve had multiple arguments about as not everyone is the same or works the same and just because someone says it should take this long...

Ever feel as though your being setup to fail.

It’s just annoying as you feel as though you are being used as a scapegoat. All they say is we lost money on that job. You need to speed up or do things quicker. End of the day someone is paying a professional to do a job. Good work is not cheap and cheap work is not good. But you’ve never...

    Very true indeed.

Ever feel as though your being setup to fail.

I’ve been in the Fire and Security Industry arounf 3 years now and have my qualifications. I was given an Install of a Panel change and Keypad and Speaker. Now our so called supervisor of 30 years said it’s only half a day. Long story short it was a full day. Lots of issues, took a whole day...

Adding a Fuse Spur on to a Consumer Unit Circuit

We’re both doing the install. I’m not added the circuit to the consumer unit. As I’m not qualified and neither is the other chap.

Adding a Fuse Spur on to a Consumer Unit Circuit

What certification? This is the whole argument and why I’ve refused to even do it.

Adding a Fuse Spur on to a Consumer Unit Circuit

Exactly. That’s my point. I’ve my level 2 and 3 2365. But that doesn’t mean I’m qualified. But our place don’t care.

Adding a Fuse Spur on to a Consumer Unit Circuit

It could do. But as it’s such a small load. I thought put it on a lower rated MCB.

Adding a Fuse Spur on to a Consumer Unit Circuit

It’s not going on the ring circuit. It’s going directly on to a circuit on the consumer unit. It is only a small load though. It’s fused down to 3amp. As long as he doesn’t add it into the lighting circuit or the ring main circuit.

Adding a Fuse Spur on to a Consumer Unit Circuit

Okay thanks. I thought I better check as I’ve also made the assumption. But that’s good to know. I must have go something wrong somewhere. Thanks for the clarification.

Adding a Fuse Spur on to a Consumer Unit Circuit

Sorry I mean if we add our new circuit to say a 16amp MCB that already has a circuit on it? Your having an affect on the diversity?

Adding a Fuse Spur on to a Consumer Unit Circuit

Sorry for the Alarm Panel we use flex from the FCU to the Panel and the man add 2.5mm T&E to the circuit. So we are okay to add a new circuit to the consumer unit. But what if that circuit is already in use? You can’t then add our circuit into that can we?

Adding a Fuse Spur on to a Consumer Unit Circuit

I’ve had a disagreement with one of the Engineers in work. So we are doing an install. Installing an Intruder Alarm. Rather than go with my suggestion of coming off a Socket and adding in the Fuse Spur as he’s been doing it 15 years it’s now going next to the Consumer Unit. Which at a guess is...
