your wiring diagram doesn't make sense to me for a 2 port valve. A 2 port valve is simply an open and shut valve. It has the following wiring
Blue - neutral
green and yellow - earth
grey - permanent live
brown - switched live from thermostat (be it C/H or Hot water)
orange - switched live out...
where abouts in Manchester are you? have you tried approaching some local firms to see if they would take you on as an 'improver' or electrical labourer
So your plumber has added the 2 x 2 port valves to control the current heating and the under floor heating. Your problem will be how do you control the valve for the current heating. You will need a feed to power the valve and a switch live to the valve to tell it to open. This would have to...
If your working with an electrician, ask him to explain what he is doing and why. He should be able to explain loads to you and its easier to learn stuff when you can see it being done etc than from a book or in a classroom
