hi new to this insaltion resistance test and nvq

Hi just looking through notes can you do an insulation test on a ring main, I have signed up to a course to get my basic starting stuff and want to get my nvq level 3 nearly 30 how can I go about this

Yes, you NEED to do an IR test on a ring FINAL circuit.

Thanks it didn't make it clear in my books as it only showed and talked about ceilling rose for an insulation test

is it that you are asking how to go about the insulation test, or now to go about getting the level 3?

for IR test on a ring final, remove all loads, switch off all FCUs. isolate CU with main switch. remove CU lid. take ring final L and N legs out of terminals. IR at 500v L/E, N/E, L/N.

I started a course can't get my money back so I'm going to complete the course it will give me 17th edition, part p, testing and inspection, pat testing. Where should I go after the course to gain the rest of what I need to be qualified, I know they are changing the nvq so I don't know what to do next and what can I do with the qualifications gained been working with an electrician for a year now already please help I'm struggling with all the jargon on the internet.

If your working with an electrician, ask him to explain what he is doing and why. He should be able to explain loads to you and its easier to learn stuff when you can see it being done etc than from a book or in a classroom
