Hello.
I'm in the final stages of completing my electrician course, and I find myself confused (again) by EFLI.
In the textbook provided is this:
Uo 230V
see below for each circuit.
Calculate the maximum Zs for each circuit:
Complete the table.
The answers given in the textbook are said to...
Hello :)
Just been doing some investigations into running power from the CU in the house out to my shed.
I lifted the floorboards on the upstairs landing and found that power cables have been laid right next to the central heating water pipes.
This can’t be safe, surely?
hello.
Dejavu for some folk, but here’s the scenario:
My house is two-storey brick, my shed is 10’x3’ (odd size I know, but the back yard is small) made entirely of wood, no metal at all.
The gap between the house wall and shed is 300-400mm.
At present there is no power to the shed, so I have...
Pete, I did say that if I did need help I would let you know.
But I managed to sort the issue out myself, and I did thank you for the offer.
I do apologise if I have offended you in any way.
Westward, you are the winner of a nice, brand new shiny toaster!
The issue was indeed cross-over.
I checked the switch again, (after safe isolation and testing) and discovered I had somehow managed to get two wires swapped.
So, after rectifying my goof, (and more testing), all is working well...
There is no tripping issue, as neither CB’s have tripped at all.
It’s only when either one CB is off and the other is on.
So Westward wins the toaster
Will keep you updated...
Am in Peterborough.
I’m not sure how long it’s been like this, I only discovered it recently by chance when I changed a lightswitch like for like. And yes I got the wires in the correct holes :)

Hello
I want to move a lightswitch down the wall in my kitchen to the minimum 1.2m above the floor.
On inspection, I discovered the existing wiring not in conduit, but rather having been plastered/mortared over. The house wiring is pre-2006, but the extension to the lighting is harmonised...
thanks for the reply.
I know how to get the resistivity with a known CSA, my problem is I cant work out how to calculate the CSA of the cable, when the CSA is unknown.
