    Bonding Cast Iron Pipe

Thanks for the answers. So, we have at least established that it is required to bond it or it may fail an EICR. The pipe is definately cast iron and definately goes into the ground and has never been altered. A plumber told me the joins were made with lead. The pipe jutting into the bathroom...

    Bonding Cast Iron Pipe

Hello. The toilet is connected into a cast iron waste/soil pipe O.D. 150mm. Apparently, this is an extraneous conductive part and is thus supposed to have a main protective bonding conductor connected back to the MET. There is a bonding clamp for 150mm O.D. pipes available. However, the pipe...

EICR CODE too close to pipes

    a) picture as requested. I don't think 40mm is close enough for heat from pipes to affect the sockets but the power cord from the fcu is touching one pipe. So, opinion on code? I think C3 unless the heat could damage the power cord? One answer might be to box in those pipes but it still...

EICR CODE too close to pipes

What is the right code for: a) central heating pipes running directly below a socket (left to right). Could heat from the pipes slightly warm the socket and possibly warm a flex cord of a plugged in appliance if it touches the pipe? Would lagging the pipes solve this? b) electric cable...

Wiring organisation logic (switch in different room to light)

That Wiska box looks ideal. Thanks for the tip. I've just checked the light. It's only 10w so should be fine on the lighiting circuit but it has no fuse. Given that it's going outside, should it have one to prevent all the lights tripping if there is a fault? With the older more powerful...

Wiring organisation logic (switch in different room to light)

Thanks for that suggestion. I think option 1 but with the JB on the wall outside seems the best. Something like this: Bravo Waterproof Junction Box Waterproof Cable Junction Box Connector In Ground Junction Box Waterproof - Buy Junction Box Electrical Connector,Junction Box Waterproof,Junction...

Wiring organisation logic (switch in different room to light)

How important is it for the power to be coming from the same room as the switch?

Wiring organisation logic (switch in different room to light)

The JB's are Ashley Maintenance Free ones. The landing is easy to access. no furniture, no tiles. There has to be a way to join the flex from the floodlight to a cable, so that joint will be under the floor near the outside wall.

Wiring organisation logic (switch in different room to light)

REPLY to Charlie The short answer is no, hence why it is better to run 1 cable instead of 3. If everything was kept near the outside wall the shortest path is only a few meters from the switch but would have to be drilled through an awkward beam in a hard to reach place. It is also under the...

Wiring organisation logic (switch in different room to light)

I need to get an outside floodlight fitted, just need to think the best way to keep things logical. Just want to make life easier for whoever might work on the installation at a later date. The isolation switch will be in the kitchen but the actual light will be going outside through the wall...

Distance fire call point to light switch

Thanks for the tips. I think the MCP with a cover a bit away from the light switch will be OK.

Distance fire call point to light switch

Hello, I need to add a switch for an outside light. The obvious place is near the back door but that is where the fire call point will go. Is there a minimum distance in any regualtions between the two? E.g. to prevent someone from accidentally pressing the call point while trying to press...

    SWA lifespan buried?

How long does 6mm SWA last before the sheath degrades if buried direct? What would be the best ducting to run up a garden to a shed if ducting is needed?

    Notch stud then nail over

Hi, does it comply with the regulations to run a cable in a notch in the wood upright of a stud wall and then nail plasterboard over it (taking care not to nail the cable)? The position of the notch is within 150mm of the corner/end of the wall in the prescribed zone. In this case drilling...

Cable in narrow space - how to fix it?

Thanks very much for the replies. I mistakenly thought the cable must at all times stay >50mm from the surface and must be clipped along the joist if running the same direction. I see now that it is OK to rest it on the ceiling and the 50mm rule is specific to cables passing through holes in...

Cable in narrow space - how to fix it?

It is RCD protected but there is no way to support the conduit. The conduit would have to rest without fixings on the ceiling.

Cable in narrow space - how to fix it?

What about it being <50mm from the surface? does it not matter? I guess from time to time, it's not practical to comply with every reg 100%?
