    Domestic solar panels advice.

In a near perfect south facing roof, depending on shade and size of your roof you could be looking at around a 6 year payback depending on usage.

    It was Christmas Eve morning....

The gas fitter ran the twin and earth? Like you, I am baffled as to why someone would drill so close to another cable.

Solar immersion device capable of running 6kW immersion

If that's the case, then why do manufacturers limit their devices at 13A?

Solar immersion device capable of running 6kW immersion

Could be, but if it is then it must have been adapted to single phase. The supply is certainly only single phase.

Solar immersion device capable of running 6kW immersion

I've only briefly looked at it but I can say that it is certainly only a single phase supply.

Solar immersion device capable of running 6kW immersion

The rewiring would be the issue. It'd be a nightmare if not impossible without a bit of destruction.

Solar immersion device capable of running 6kW immersion

I've not seen it, but I'd imagine so. This will probably be the route we go down if we can't get a 30A device.

Solar immersion device capable of running 6kW immersion

It would work ok. But we wouldn't get the proportional control of the immersion heater.

Solar immersion device capable of running 6kW immersion

Sounds like it is 3 individual elements but the current supply is 30A so I am assuming that they are connected together in series.

Solar immersion device capable of running 6kW immersion

We could, but we have a 10kWp three phase system so we'd never be exporting 6kW of power.

Solar immersion device capable of running 6kW immersion

I have a customer with a 6kW immersion heater and we are trying to find a device which will cope with this size. All the ones I've seen so far are rated at 13A maximum. Anyone know of a device which could do 6kW?

Adding panels to an existing system

Thanks for that, Ted. So what is stopping someone installing and registering a 4kWp system and then simply installing another 6kWp the next day? Isn't this always a better option than simply installing 10kWp in one go?

Adding panels to an existing system

A pretty basic question here, but something we haven't come across before. If a 4kWp is installed, as far as I understood it, and addition would then bring the original installation down to the rate of the new size FIT bracket: for example, add 2kWp and the whole system would now be on the...

    In-roof system on slate tiles

I've got a potential customer who wants an in-roof system on slate tiles. Has anyone found a good system for this which integrates neatly?

    £10,500 for 3.5kw system?

Way overpriced and overpricing tends to go hand in hand with disastrous installs. West Yorkshire is well represented on these forums. Get them to call one of these guys.

    MCS letter Generation meter

We've actually installed one in a loft before. There really was no other option though as the consumer unit was utterly inaccessible without removing a section of kitchen cupboard. The customer was in the process of converting the loft space though so I'm hoping he followed that through.
