    Are my qualifications relevant??

What sort of money do domestic electricians earn? Genuine question, I have no idea. For industrial pay starts at around £30k, although you get companies trying for someone from £26k, but that’s more fitters money. Days tend to pay £32-36k. FMCG 4 on 4 off can be £36-45k Management usually...

    Are my qualifications relevant??

Why? What’s wrong with industrial? I don’t know the area you are in but in Manchester there are loads of maintenance jobs around. Companies just can’t find enough people.

    DC 110KW Drive Problem

These drives are commonly found on larger extruders. Have you done the basic motor tests and insulation resistance tests? You need semi-conductor rated fuses for this application, cheaper fuses aren’t economical!

    Anyone work in injection molding?

Thanks, I’m not going to that company now, they’ve changed their mind about taking on a maintenance engineer!

    Anyone work in injection molding?

Thanks. I’m currently plastic extrusion, we get thermocouples, SSR’s and barrel vacuums on twin screws causing the most problems. Injection molding machines tend to use their own specific computer system rather than a PLC don’t they?

    Anyone work in injection molding?

I’m thinking of moving to injection molding as maintenance. Obviously the machines have a lot of hydraulics, and temperature control. What generally are the problems with them? (except heater bands and SSR’s!)

MAX LOAD FOR DOUBLE UK DOMESTIC 3 PIN SOCKET?

Double sockets have a rating of 13A on them don’t they? I’ve ben through most makes and non of them take 12.5A on a thermostatically controlled deep fat frier used for 6 hours a day for more than a month or two. Nor do BS1363 plugs or BS1363A plugs!

Is this installation considered acceptable today? (1-ring including oven and everything else)

You’ll know if they’re not a good electrician, they’ll walk out when you tell them they’re being recorded! Do you need to tell them? Your not a business.

People keep mistaking me with an Electrician?

What maintenance experience do you have? I get around 2-4 calls from agencies every day about positions in Manchester (can’t get them to stop). There seems to be a massive shortage here, one company is looking for 30 maintenance engineers! A lot of it recently is £30-34k, but 4 on 4 off...

HSS Drills any one know good quality make

Don’t buy from UK Drills, they are terrible. I used to own a machine shop, 8% cobalt are good, if you are only drilling shallow holes then use stubs drills. I used to buy from ‘CNCPOORBOY’ on eBay, I’ve bought an M5 spiral point tap just a hour ago. Look for cobalt stub drills. And use a...

    PLC Courses...............................

Thanks for the replies. I need to decide tonight if I’m going to do the local course, as they only have one place left for the whole year! Would the Siemens Programming 1 course carry a lot more weight than an EAL Approved course? It’s around £2k more, so need to offer a fair bit more! Ive...
