    Adiabatic equation and bonding

Where does the 0.1s disconnection time come from at the top of the thread? Why not 5s?

    suppliers neutral size

Yep, I get you mate. I don't know why but I was thinking of it as 3 single phase supplies rather than a 3 phase one! Early night tonight I think. Cheers.

    suppliers neutral size

Some of these houses are converted into between 3 and 6 flats, so often each main fuse will supply 2 flats plus a landlords supply as well. Rarely is only of the fuses utilized.

    suppliers neutral size

I work in a lot of big old townhouses that are converted into flats. Many of them have a 3 phase head at the intake (3x 100A fuses) which makes me think the suppliers neutral must be quite substantial?? I have always assumed it is <35mm when selecting main bonding conductors but thinking about...

    what would you do?

I'll try to be brief, I have a ccu change to do and whilst checking the associated wiring I noticed the ring main is wired in the old twin cable ( no cpc) but seperate earth singles have been run with them. Obviously they should have adequate mechanical protection etc. but if test readings are...

    Decent test leads

I need to get a new set of leads for my megger mft1720. I am fed up with crap leads/probes that don't last, I have had this with my megger leads and with some leads on an old fluke I had. Can anyone recommend a set of compatible leads that will make me smile when I use them?

    Strange RCBO test results??

A colleague replaced the landlords ccu in a small block of flats but had to fit MCB's as the RCBO's hadnt turned up with the order. He tested the board and left it like that to go away for the weekend, I went back later the same day to fit the rcbos once they turned up and to do the rcbo tests...

    Garden cables routing

Depending on layout of the garden and cable run then how about a catenary wire if no other way possible? No digging and as long as you have a secure fixing at each end, i.e the house wall and your shed or garden wall at the end then could get you out of trouble. Could even have it running along...

    Strange RCBO test results??

I've never come accross this before so was wondering if anyone here can explain it for me! Whilst testing new RCBO trip times, one of the RCBO's was tripping too slowly and somethimes not at all, something at 80ms at x1 and >1999 at x5 compared to all the others which were at around 18ms at x1...

    Testmate Proving Unit

I'm looking at getting a proving unit. Does anybody have a Testmate? The Testmate PU100 looks exactly the same as the Megger MPU690 for about £30 less. Just wondered if there is a difference?

    Main Bonding issues. Help!

That was my point exactly Luke. Without disconnecting 1 end of the bond then they will be getting false readings through parallel paths, such as the main bonds in the flats below etc. I have sent off a long email this evening so will have to wait and see what they say!

    Main Bonding issues. Help!

I'm not nic sedgy, so even if i sign these certs the QS for the firm I was doing the work for will have to sign them as well. I just want to do the right thing and not be made to look like a t*t about it. As you say, they have been to look at these jobs and now it has been put back on me to...

    Main Bonding issues. Help!

Thanks again. I do have the snags and solutions book and have held off getting GN8 until the updated version comes out next month. I am willing to stand by my opinions but just wanted to make sure there aren't any 'loopholes' that the other firm could trip me up on. Apparently one of their...

    Main Bonding issues. Help!

Thanks for your replies. Is there actually a regulation that says each flat should have its own main bonding or is it just a recommendation? These people want the absolute minimum done and at the moment are saying that as it is done communally that it is sufficient?

    Main Bonding issues. Help!

I want to try and keep this short so i'll do my best! I was recently doing some work for an electrical and building firm who were fitting new kitchens to council flats. We were basically altering kitchen circuits and/or installing new ones if needed and issuing the relevant certificates. We were...
