T&E clipped direct to outside wall.

Thanks Malcolm (and Chris). Looks like there are a number of options which justifies my need to ask the question. I suppose that I could use T&E; but that would invite awkward questions of the assessor; similarly in some respects using hi-tuf may satisfy the UV degegraation issue but may...

T&E clipped direct to outside wall.

This post is slightly more detailed than the title suggests. I am fitting a small security light in a covered passageway that exists between 2 ex council houses. The passageway has structure above it which forms internal rooms of this houses. Consequently there is very little natural light in...

Can I use Type 1 MCB

Thanks for this informative response. To help me still further why can they not be specified for new installations? And does this reason not also apply to a new circuit added to a current installation?

Can I use Type 1 MCB

I have a Crabtree Type SB6000 CU. It has a spare way with a redundant MCB Type 1 6A. I was hoping to use it for a small lighting circuit. Can someone of more experience than myself advise me if the Type 1 MCB could be used under BS7671 17th edition?

New Consumer Unit - Generic Schedule of Test Results - Reference Method

Just trying to get something straight in my mind. I've been looking at the Electrical Safety Council's Guidance 6 for changing a consumer unit in a domestic premises. They say that if the customer does not wish for a full EICR then the pre-work survey required before the CU change should...

    Consumer Unused Spare ways

Sorry, didn't mean to offend. Thanks for the response. There are some out there that use forums such as this to show off their knowledge of the regulations and take every opportunity to post comments that imply that others know nothing of the regs. The info you posted, though not directly...

    Consumer Unused Spare ways

Yes of course. Not really sure what this has got to do with the thread though.

    Consumer Unused Spare ways

Yes, good point. Those blanks can be a bit hit and miss.

    Consumer Unused Spare ways

Yes, I was thinking this too.

    Consumer Unused Spare ways

I am fitting a new dual CU that comes with 10MCBs. For those that are unused is it acceptable to just leave them installed but switched off and identified as unused. Or should they be removed and replaced with blanks?

A reminder to everyone - FatallyFlawed - Child Plug Socket Covers Campaign

So you go into a nursery to do a periodic and you find a toy jammed into every socket outlet; and you're going to leave that site with no more than a recommendation.

A reminder to everyone - FatallyFlawed - Child Plug Socket Covers Campaign

Surely there's something in BS1363 that says that BS1363 socket outlets are only to be used with BS1363 plugs. Are you saying that you have no obligation to code anything that you find plugged into a BS1363 because it is not part of the installtion even if you believe it to be dangerous.

A reminder to everyone - FatallyFlawed - Child Plug Socket Covers Campaign

So are you saying that these should be noted as an observation? And if so which code?

A reminder to everyone - FatallyFlawed - Child Plug Socket Covers Campaign

Haven't read all 128 posts to this thread, so forgive me if someone has touched on the issue that I raise on the post. If these things are so bad and they are found to be installed during a periodic, what Observation Codes are being used on the EICR (C1, C2 or C3)? I am guessing that these...

Smart Meter Installtion Programme - Opportunty to fit Supplier isolators to all homes

Re: Smart Meter Installtion Programme - Opportunty to fit Supplier isolators to all h Thanks DurhamSparky for your response. And I suggest that your pragmatic approach to the problem is one shared by many competent persons and almost all "honest" and competent persons. What about the option...
