    Is this meter redundant?

should definitely have a double pole isolator and appropriate labels. Or is it the 16a MCB with no description, doesn't look like a huge PV system. It may or may not need RCD protection depending on the cable run and the MI. And would preferably be type A at least. You need to confirm if it is...

    Is this meter redundant?

Is it a PV generation meter, missing a few stickers?

This could be an interesting time….

Fair job that one, looking a lot better! I hate domestic work especially when some numpty has been there first and ballsed it up. Which seems more often than not these days!!

Difference between 1p+N and double pole RCD

So an update, went in today and @Risteard was indeed correct, Hager do not seem to list a single pole switch neutral or double pole in a single module size even the AFDD RCBO are single pole. So I will be changing the lot for Fusebox as they do make a single module double pole RCBO at a very...

Difference between 1p+N and double pole RCD

Well I will definitely be speaking to them in that case as I need it to be 1 module! Thanks @Risteard !

Smart technology a go go or a no no

Yes another fan of the Quinetic switches here, been using them for years and only had a couple of failures but we're replaced very quickly by TLC. Very versatile and many options available in their range. I recently did a new kitchen and all the 6 lighting sets were switched through Quinetic...

I totally agree highly dangerous, it was on a home made extension lead with a 32a socket on the end for 'Welding round the farm' it had packed up with a large pop apparently and took out the sockets mcb. I told them it had its last welder plugged in and was only good for the scrap bin!

Sharpening SDS drill bits -the Multi Sharp gadget.

I have come across some very hard bricks round our way especially in the old railway built houses! Many a burnt out or mushroom shaped drill bit beyond grinding. Have found some of the Non-SDS drill bits like the Irwin and Bosch multiconstruction ones really good for these type of very hard...

Sharpening SDS drill bits -the Multi Sharp gadget.

I use a mini bench grinder on site but have used an angle grinder with a flap disk in emergencies. I was taught by my dad and again at college how to sharpen drill bits by hand on a bench grinder. I must admit 4mm is the smallest I can do, anything smaller and my eyes just can't do it anymore...

    New patented electrical outlet

I think it is a good idea if it will fit on a standard twin box. I hate squeezing into a base unit and fighting with multiple cables trying to wire a socket and outlet for a gas ignition hob and 6kw oven or 6kw hob and 2kw oven. If as said above it is reasonable price and it cuts down the time...

    Torque Talk

25mm tails are a prime example of the torque, tea break, torque, tug test and torque again scenario! Manufacturer's should have tested all manor of types and sizes of conductor in their device, weather that is the case or not, the entry position and any pressure or bends in the cable will to...

    Advice for moving a supply

I agree with above! B sounds the easiest way round the issue assuming there is a nice route from the stables to the existing consumer unit! Or see if SP will go underground from the pole if you get the trench and duct in for them? Sy

    Torque Talk

I have and use a torque driver for a few years now. I have found more and more manufacturers listing required torque either in the instructions or on the product next to the terminals (that's if they aren't push in) so that it's obvious. As to whether or not I agree with that setting is another...

    Strange quinetic issue

Interesting article, thanks for posting it! I was sure I had used them before 2008 but on a firm I was working for so they purchased them. I have no idea how long they have been about for but in one guise or another they have been about since the early to mid 2000's as I started for that company...
