I do Exactly the same as @nicebutdim
Those snips are great for trimming the excess cores off and for flush cutting cable ties!
Anand much cheaper than the Knipex version!! đź‘Ť
@timhoward this thread is of good timing as I have the very same situation in a couple of weeks and had gone for the Click option!
And thanks to @loz2754 for confirming that they will fit is excellent!
Thanks gentlemen!! đź‘Ť
Had the same thing happen to me a couple of days ago with an RCD socket of some vintage. Well hidden in a conservatory, had to move a shed load of stuff to find it, I was initially thinking as the I got closer to it, ere we go another dodgy conservator install!
The best one I found on that job...
Nah, the Spacer connectors are good and there is a bit of wiggle room if the knockouts don't quite line up! I bought some of both sizes and use them often!
Be careful if using the shorter ones as some flat plate is too wide for the gap left by the spacer.
Yes I have one, it is a very useful piece of equipment. But as said above it won't replace a proper two pole tester in safe isolation practices.
They are very useful though as a primary detection device, I used mine on a pillar drill the other day that had been reported as getting shocks when...
i had a very similar fault about 10 years ago, this was on a radial with two sockets on it only about 10m of cable in an old stone Cottage, did a board change and tested all ok, all RCBO's stayed in until later that evening when the circuit in question tripped.
Went back next day and tested the...
My thoughts,
There is a high possibility if there is a fault on that cable that is where it will be.
If the cable has been damaged then water ingress will likely be causing a short possibly live to SWA, hence the differing lengths of time the MCB will stay energized for.
As said before an...
I use EasyCert too, have done for the last 5 years, I find it easy to use and covers all I need. yes it has its issues but show me one that doesn't!
Interesting comments about NAPIT's online certs, they were trying to get me to sign up for it and sent a free trial. I have yet to try it out but...
The biggest problem I find is the L shaped lip on the edge of enclosure to give them strength. This means getting square on to a wafer thin locknut is virtually impossible unless using a cranked spanner or socket if the cable isn't already in the gland. I prefer a spanner or adjustable spanner...
Many years ago now before I was an apprentice a good friend did drill through his main supply cable, with a metal Black and Decker drill putting up a picture mirror.
That cable too was buried in the render of an old now not external wall. I was stood not that far away, watched him leave the...
I have found CEF to be cheaper than Edmondsons round our way. I always get basics from screwfix but mainly use CEF for commercial/agricultural installation materials.
I use TLC online a lot and superlec for swa and cable cuts as they seem to be best on price and delivery.
Some screwfix items I...
Could you not if opening up the hole, drill slightly to one side of it encompassing the existing hole? Especially if it's only 10mm and you drill a 25mm.
Or make a template up to clamp to the joist to start the hole, once centered if using the bits listed above or similar once it's started it...
I was called out to a nuisance RCD tripping, yesterday, not one of those but a wylex one.
Did some tests and the ramp told me it was tripping at 21ma.
Turned the circuits back on 1 by 1 with a clamp on the main tails and watched the leakage reach 19ma!
The place was absolutely full of tec...
Nice one! That is a good list, I agree with Tim on needing a sheet just for Wylex, why oh why have they changed so many times and made them incompatible!
Hager and Proteus have hardly changed and most of both their respective ranges are backward compatible!
I use the Orbix self drilling metal screws and find them very good indeed! I use their wood screws as well due to the large flat head on them, much better than countersink and allows for some adjustment.
We have a local merchant that does the hex head ones in light and heavy section that are...
Agree with @ferg not all mine are Instagram perfect but you will be able to see which neutral and earth are the ones for each circuit and will have plenty space for testing and additional cables/circuits!
And yes the next bloke who looks in there will judge just as we all do!
@James
Neatness wouldn't make it any safer, but.
Hidden in there are some 1.0mm cables protected by 20mcb's and some 2.5mm radial circuits on 32a mcb's.
As well as cables left to fit and not enough spare ways for them.
There are also lighting circuits in with socket circuits it's a bit of a...
So would you be happy to test this rats nest that was done a couple of months ago?
And has some obvious faults without looking properly, the original installer wouldn't sign it off and then wouldn't answer the customer's emails calls or texts, mm wonder why!
I was going to attach a picture of...
