Is this twisted cloth flex double or single insulated?

Thanks all for the interesting and helpful replies. So I guess the question I should be asking is 'is the sheath capable of providing fault protection?', or, to put that another way, 'if the insulation failed, would the sheath provide protection against shock/electrocution?'.

Is this twisted cloth flex double or single insulated?

Hi Folks Just bought some of this Bronze Twisted Fabric Flex - Braided Cloth Cable Lighting Wire - https://www.industville.co.uk/products/light-brown-twisted-fabric-flex-braided-cloth-cable-lighting-wire?variant=1184660808&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI14zguOzl3wIVRbDtCh2C9QQCEAkYASABEgJA0fD_BwE for a job...

    Solution to high cost AFDDs?

Insulation resistance might show a parallel arc, maybe higher than expected resistance for a series arc (maybe a bit of guesswork with the second)? Or try switching off one MCB at a time and resetting the AFDD (maybe not much use for an intermittent fault)? Your solution may well be more...

    Solution to high cost AFDDs?

Hi Folks Screwfix have Wylex combined AFDD/RCBOs for over £200 each. For a simple hypothetical installation with 2 lighting and two ring final sockets circuits, that's over £800 for devices alone. So, if one were to install two consumer unit enclosures, one with main switch and two 40A...

    RCD for Bathroom Zone 1

I think we should give the OP the benefit of the doubt. For all we know, a cowboy may have told him he needs an extra RCD, or he may just want to know what to ask for or expect when seeking quotes. Or he might be a letting agent wanting to know what to advise his clients. The possibilities...

    EICR's after 1st Jan 2019 ....

Don't know how this would fit with EICRs but on an EIC, how about noting it as a non-compliance and detailing what one had done to ensure an equivalent level of safety?: - Visual inspection for correct connection to bus bar. - Ensuring breaking capacity of the individual component exceeds...

Always thought they were more of a carpenter's tool. Never seen them for sale with Electrician's tools.

    RCD for Bathroom Zone 1

Two serious questions for the O.P., I'm not meaning to be rude in any way: 1. Are you envisaging an additional RCD in series with the existing one, or putting these lights on a separate circuit protected by its own RCD and not the existing one? 2. What do you see as the advantage of this...

    EICR's after 1st Jan 2019 ....

Shirly the only thing that matters from a technical perspective is that the bus bar makes proper contact with the feed terminal of the breaker.

MEM & Eaton. Obviously the same and seen them mixed in a board many times. Possibly GE too.

    EICR's after 1st Jan 2019 ....

I bought a CED consumer unit from QVS when I'd not long started and it came with some Excel (QVS own brand I believe) MCBs. They were identical to the CED ones and already installed in the CU. Would this stand up in court? I still have some Excel MCBs and plan to fit a couple in a CED...

0.75mm2 flex for fixed equipment - reality check.

Thanks Wirepuller, makes sense. And the pendant doesn't even have its own OCPD like an FCU. But don't you mean downstream? Or is my brain still malfunctioning?

0.75mm2 flex for fixed equipment - reality check.

Hi Folks I've never thought twice about using 0.75mm2 flex for connecting fixed equipment (e.g. extractor fan in window) to a fused connection unit with 3A fuse where this is sufficient for the load of the equipment. But table 52.3 of BS7671 states minimum csa for copper cable in lighting...

Bootlace ferrules French or German colours

Seems a very valid point. I mean Shirley if you just strip the right amount of conductor insulation in the first place there's no need for insulated ferrules. Where do you buy your uninsulated ones?
