Hi all.
I am installing some metal trunking vertically in a meter cupboard to contain all the meter tails for an apartment block. I have 5 sets of tails entering one “row” of meters, and about 300mm further down the trunking I have another 4 sets of tails entering the other row of meters. Due...
Thats crazy isnt it! Makes you doubt yourself when u cant find something but when theres so many potential outcomes its always going to be tough I spose! Thanks for the reply!
Thanks Telectrix, i’m going over after work so will carry out an R2 test & see what reading I get!

Thanks for the reply Dabbers, yes all in copper, I did test between the rad/shower with my voltage tester & all I got was continuity... hope this helps?

Very confusing...
Thanks snowhead, would you recommend testing all circuits in & around the bathroom in question? Not really sure where to start with the next step to be honest as this is a first for me!
Hi, working in a property a couple of years old. Earthing System is a TN-C-S.
Customer’s daughter/wife have both complained about receiving a “slight tingle/static sensation” when using the shower in only one of the bathrooms (when touching the shower/or towel rad). I’ve checked the incoming...
I've asked a couple of people about this as it didnt look right to me & i'd never seen it before & they seemed to think it was perfectly acceptable. Seems a very lazy/odd way to do it as DB3 & 4 arent too far away from each other & DB3 has plenty of space in it! Frustrating coming across things...
Yeah i'll go with that so you can see all consumer units are on certificates for the sake of the install, wont hurt for future reference either. I suppose in even bigger installations where there are multiple DB's not associated with one you are installing a new circuit in, it's acceptable not...
True, thanks for the help all. I'll be going back next week to finish off. One more thing (i'll try not to make it sound too confusing), i'm carrying out an installation cert (see the consumer unit layout below)
Consumer unit @ origin (4way tp) > (feeding) DB 1, & DB 2 (via 2x D63a mcbs)
-DB1...
Cheers Wilko, Westward... when I test from DB1 in the factory itself, the readings go back to normal which tells me its not my tester. It is close to the substation actually, didnt realise this would give me a high pfc & low ze! So a possible option to find a more accurate reading would be to...
Hi all,
I recently went to install a new circuit & when trying to obtain a ze reading at the origin (TN-C-S) I got 0.01 ohms with a pfc of >19.9kA... This is when testing from the main distribution board which is in a hut next to the building where the work took place 15/20 meters away. Anyone...
Yes, thats right! Consumer unit couldnt go by the meter unfortunately as it backs onto the lounge & customer (despite my efforts) wont have it there! Thanks for your help peg
Hi David,
Yeah I agree with regards to the cable! I'll calculate the maximum demand but to be honest, it's such a big place I think anything less than a 25mm could potentially be an expensive mistake!
Hi Peg, thanks for the response! Yes into one (very big) dwelling, with dividing internal walls coming out, the DNO have removed one of the properties supplies, leaving the other in place, which is where I am to take the supply from. I think to cover any potential additional add-ons, I will use...
