Nothing went in my favour today.

Very reassuring, thanks! I should live in hope.

Nothing went in my favour today.

I paired up the legs by checking the continuity and I don't think that's an issue. I now beginning to suspect a shared neutral. I think I really got into a hell hole as all the rooms are with laminated flooring and the sockets don't reveal anything.

Nothing went in my favour today.

Went to replace a rewirable fuse board and had a real nightmare with upstairs ring. Continuity of the conductors are OK but when tested for IR, there was a dead short between earth & neutral. Opened up all sockets but couldn’t see any problem. Tried splitting the ring – with one end (that...

Some interesting stats I've just read.

No one would openly declare that they use faulty plugs/sockets, would they? ...or the guy who took the survey went into home and genuinely found broken plugs/sockets? This survey is an humbug!

Absolutely no earth for lighting circuit.

I quite agree but this flat has only 3 circuits.

Absolutely no earth for lighting circuit.

Just smashing feedback from everyone; thank you all for your contribution. The ceiling is concrete and I can’t possibly trace out where the conduit broke and I am left with only one option and that’s to do as TPES says. Cheers!

Absolutely no earth for lighting circuit.

I have replaced a re-wireable CU with a 6 way single RCD board. The lighting circuit uses a single stranded phase & neutral cables in a metallic conduit and the conduit (supposedly) acts as earth conductor, but although I could see the conduit at the ceiling roses, I couldn’t see the presence of...

Hi Jason, Sometimes it's hard to resist retaliating to abusive posts. The chap in question has just enrolled on some electrical course(s) and has no exposure to the real-world electrical installations but still pretends to be the wisest of all. He had provoked quite a few members on this forum...

    i/r ON FRIDGE

Plugging a device into a socket on a different RCD is a simple exercise to see if the device is the culprit. I have never implied that by doing so the problem will be solved or suggested that the healthy existing circuit should be dumped.

    i/r ON FRIDGE

Connect the fridge to another socket on another RCD (if possible) using an extension lead and see if it trips, then it's definitely the fridge; n'est-ce pas?
