Distribution circuits in Section 705 location, RCD needed?

Sheep won't hurt anything. Cattle won't bite anything, but they'll lick and pull with their rasp like tongues. Horses are the ones you need to worry about. Reminded me of the SWA I left in an open trench overnight. Horse found it. Pity it wasn't energised.

    Inspection&Test and EICR

The semi retired referred to above is much more likely to have the experience to accurately assess the age of an existing installation to determine which things that would now be C2 can be marked as C3.

    UHF wiring help

Probably something along the lines of using the brown to the valves to control the pumps and the orange to control the boiler.

I trust you've removed the cover from that for the purpose of taking the pics, and have replaced it afterwards.

    Switching between garden feeds

It's unlikely tht a small domestic garden pump and a single lamp will come anywhere near close to overloading even the smallest (3A) fused spur that you're likely to have. Tiny wifi switch modules are available that could be used to switch both, using an app on your phone.

4A fuse - how common are they ?

Chapter 12 of BS7672 allows for deviations, as long as they're recorded, and you have sufficient knowledge to justify them.

UK High PSCC and strange readings - help much appreciated

Transformer feeding my house is that sort of distance from the service head.

    Is it a tt supply

Underground or overground supply, there may well be a TNC-S earthing terminal provided in the service head, but the DNO might not give permission to use it, if the installation doesn't meet the bonding requirements for TNC-S. Not an uncommon occurrence for me, with some of the ramshackle part...

4A fuse - how common are they ?

Running currents are given in the manual, and with the biggest boiler covered by it, plus the full load auxiliary current (pump?), it's not going to exceed 1.5A. I'd be quite happy to feed this with a 3A fuse.

Supply Isolator required to be metal on TT

Indeed. IIRC, when this ridiculous regulation first made the light of day, there were several questions and proposals regarding the use of non combustible plastics, but it turned out that the regulation was framed such that only metal would meet the requirements, without resorting to exotic and...

    Appliances in bathroom cupboard

At some point, all sewage pumps will fail, or need extensive maintenance. I make it quite clear that I'm not interested in either.

    Appliances in bathroom cupboard

Plenty of options for removing sewage and similar in an uphill direction, and I've installed a few, but always with the stipulation that after I've fitted it, I'm never asked to work on it again.

    New outbuilding question.

It's only in limited circumstances that you will get discrimination between the two RCDs, and if any part of your supply cable, where it is not SWA, is buried within 50mm of the surface of a wall, the first RCD is required to be 30mA, not 100mA

    Working by yourself

Even when working on a site with "other trades", my 'standard' working day was 10am to 6pm. No heavy traffic to contend with, morning or evening, and I got more work done in that last one and a half hours than the previous three.

    Working by yourself

I've always worked by myself. My wife has always said that I'm impossible to work with, and she may have a point. Seem to remember my father saying something similar, as well. Having said that, I have, on occasions, worked for, and with, a few selected competent and experienced DIYers

UK Powered speaker tripped circuits four times over a couple weeks, insulation tester result seems ok, need advice.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it turns out that there is nothing wrong with your monitor, other than the dodgy power switch, but you do turn out to have some poor neutral to earth resistance somewhere else on the circuit monitored by the RCD in question.

    New van

You jest, but my wife isn't much above the minimum height to be allowed in a car without a booster seat, and she does actually sit on a proper booster cushion (one without the wings) when in the passenger or driver's seat. The seat adjustment is enough to let her reach the pedals OK, but the...
