I agree
If he is self employed and you have no agreement in place stating he cannot work direct then it is your loss
This is the thing with employers- I was forced to go self eomployed 20 years ago so the employer could save money on national insurance etc.
Same employer had a huff when I...
That's why we do NOT work for builders- company policy
Never had a good experience working with builders. They want you to cut your cost to the bone and then add a massive margin to your invoice to make you look dear to the client.
They also miss so much when quoting
On a side note- put in solar and have dual fuel water heating (a cylinder / storage tank) that takes electric and another method of heat.
If it is sunny then PV will heat your water for free, it can also power a tesla wall type thing to suppliment your home in power outages.
Just to put this in the mix.
A shaver socket with an isolating transformer is often powered but is not an appliance but an outlet that can consumer power when energised but not in use.
Modern ones switch on when you insert a plug but they don't all do this
Got an update on this
Went through the complaint process with SPEN and they agreed to upgrade the supply (for free) as I intend to do more green stuff in the house and could not with the current supply
I now have a 3 phase 80A supply at my home and 2 consumer units
One a single phase unit...
There is no effective means of earthing
We get this occaionally and SPEN are quite quick to fix things- although they took a month to fix one in Galston (they assumed the whole install had RCD by glancing, despite more than one property off the supply)
I raised a complaint with SPEN but it...
We don't normally do PV, however I was called to a PV inverter with no power, 6 years old
Found supply OK, however fed through a AC type RCD.
PV inverter has power, no display etc, no fuses blown
Supply Zs OK, voltage at strings (about 260V in afternoom, east west split)
DC and AC isolators...
Got an EV (Nissan Townstar EV) in my house, has a Zappi EV charger installed (by myself) and notified via ENA form to Scottish Power energy networks
Now at the outset my house is older and they could not identify the cable size and cut out fuse size
During the intial call I was told that SPEN...

Not going to go through everything
RCD's are a good idea - they were mandaory in the old pre-fabs years ago as they help prevent fires. They also save lives and properties
Surge protection- I would recommend as you will have electronic items in the shop and they are prone to surges
The C2 for...
I really like the Hager VC02SW REC isolators
The cover can be rotated to allow the supply at either side
They are also slimmer than others on the market, as well as having terminals that tighten to 3.6 Nm and cord clamps for the meter tails
All in a decent bit or kit.
Cable goes under floor (I think it is concrete) and rises at consumer unit under stairs
It is inside brick cavity at the meter box and goes down.
There was no adequate continuity on the gas pipe work (0.11 ohms)
