Some good points on the Chintz. I tried CEF's Proton or something. Cramped and awkward case. Might try one in a garage or similar. I'll take a look at the Hager since they seem to have the gold star.
I know I'm going to regret askin' but I never learn so here are two contentious question in one.
The best CCU, and by "best" I mean plenty of installation room, good quality screw fixings and reliable RCDs / RCBOs. Personally, I still like Schneider; maybe because that's what I trained on. The...
It is web based so you can use it on ....anything. MS Windows, Apple OS even Android. Personally, I tried it and kept loosing files. Goole Docs is a similar web based system. A stripped down Word Excel et-ctera.
IMHO forget hacked and illegal software. You're running a business - if money is...
Oh, and there is always Metrel but they seem to disable functions in software and leave the menu items in! Also, they use their own design of lead which some people like.
That's another name that was missing from this years show. A pretty pathetic attempt this year despite trying to combine...
That's a shame as, outside of the big two (Megger & Fluke) these were the only ones I thought looked professional.
A lot of folk seem to stick with whatever they used at college. Personally, I went to Electrician's Show at Ally Pally had got hands on (oooh err...) with all the kit. For me...
Learning to count is SO over-rated!
Neutral for the workshop feed was in the correct position on the incorrect neutral bar
Humph!
Thanks for your support folks :)
That correct SC. the fact that this was working perfectly until I fixed it suggested the issue is at the house end where I tidied up the wiring but double checking all the workshop installation did seem good practise.
Thanks Guys,
My bet, from what you've said, is that I've got the neutral in the wrong bar. Haven't had time to check but I'm confident that, from the SWA onward is fine. Funny enough, this was the situation that prompted me to asked about labelling in another thread.
So...
This is all on my house and no animals were harmed in the making of this hash up but the Mrs doesn't know...yet.
A few years ago we had this house rewired. Usual story, a lash up by an unqualified because we knew no better and it was one of the incentives for me to qualify and offer a...
Unfortunately one of the most vitriolic threads I've seen in here and probably better suited to Farcebook / ----ter etc. EF has always been better than them IMHO. When I started (fit for the grave according to some) I had a solid background in Restoration / Handyman tasks and a love of...
One of the hardest things for me to learn was, and still is, walk away. Even now I can look back at emergency call-outs where I have endeavoured to leave a safe and working system behind me for a family and what I should have been focused on is "if this goes up, you were the last person to touch...
I was under the impression that this is the domain of the DNO? Is it related to these slightly undersized fuses I've read about - the ones that "fall out"?
Thanks Dave,
Really useful to know. Rebuilding the customer base will not be easy but everything you listed is familiar. If I can add Gas Safe and drive for £240 for the combined skill set the plan is viable. Well done for taking the plunge and making it work. We want to make the "quality of...
Well, since I posted this we've made a couple of forays to the area. Appears to be trade vans everywhere - not an accurate measurement just an impression. This suggests work generated by all the rental properties. Went to one are in the town centre that appeared to be made of BEAUTIFUL Victorian...
This was my issue, and I do recognise it's unique to putting a shiny new CCU on some one else's "variable" wiring but the sheath was invariably just reaching into the case. Hence my sticky labels to ID the lives.
I suspect there is no prefect solution. I'm going with sharpie sheath (ooh err...)...
Picking up an old thread here. One for the silver tops please.
When you are doing a board swap and faced with a snake's nest of twisted and age hardened cables - how are you identifying them before ripping out the whole sorry mess?
I've tried wrapping normal sticky labels around the lives and...
