Advice on recent Electric Oven installation

It would seem the best answer is to contact the installer and seek re-assurance. Currently we are required to take into account manufacturers instructions. Although we do not necessarily have to follow them to the letter as each installation is so varied we sometimes need to adapt to get a...

    Opening up holes in joist

You can sometime use a jigsaw quite safely when cutting away from the wire or maybe a multi tool with a small blade???

    Opening up holes in joist

Interested in whether the existing holes comply with Part P, as in what section of the span of the joist are they in? I was just wondering whether the question was a non-starter due to not being in the right place anyway???

    Is the laptop worth buying?

The laptop you linked, Lenovo Ryzen 7 ticks all my boxes. The graphics is a little dissapointing but I could live with it. As a comparison I work with a desktop with Ryzen 5 and Geforce graphics. I use it to play WoW which is a demanding game computer wise. The most significant upgrade was...

    Is the laptop worth buying?

Yes octacore is eight core, nearly. It is really a dual quad core. The thing is the more cores the more tasks that can be dealt with at the same time. So dual quad is going to be good. I don't personally like Acer anything, check customer service and check reviews! Hewlett packard, anyone? Intel...

    Is the laptop worth buying?

So Ryzen is the go to for gamers. The cores the CPU has is the important thing. Two cores is pretty obselete nowadays. You should be looking at 4/5 core processors. Graphics are one the major bottlenecks in processing so the better graphics you can get the faster it goes. Nvidia is good Gforce...

Why are there so many secrets during job planning

I go with clipboard and graph paper and map out the rooms and mark everything on it and get the customer to look at and agree with the plan. Then I issue domestic contract referring to plan and work ordered and they sign that with 30% deposit. Invevitably changes occur. I then write detailing...

What are your thoughts on people wanting to be ultra neat when wiring inside boards?

I find that RCBO present a problem in being neat due to the connection to the N bus-bar. While not OCD I do like to make sure that visually the cabling in a consumer unit is presented in a way that is crystal clear to anyone following and doing additions or alterations. Being orderly and...

    Toilet facilities on the job

I never do a no. 2 on site, especially domestic. I have always been taught that is not on. Yet I have seen some persons using a sink for a cockle-doodle-doo (rhymes with!) There are some animals on site sometimes. No bladder control, just don't feel the need during the working day.

    Toilet facilities on the job

I have had this on site, no toilet. Not been a problem so far as I don't usually need it during working hours. But I take your point it is a bit difficult to have no facility, agreed.

    Lucien Nunes Electrical Engineer Extraordinaire

The thing that keeps coming back to me about Lucien is his braveness in the face of his mortality. I was always puzzled almost at how he faced his affliction without a word of compaint or self pity. I only hope I am able to muster such courage at such a time. R.I.P and most sincere condolences...

Baumatic two zone induction hob - Needs a 20A double pole switched fused spur...

Yeh I was wondering if that is what they meant, just a 20A (at least) isolator with a 20A MCB just badly written. I intend to ask the obvious question today of Baumatic customer support, should be amusing/educational.

Baumatic two zone induction hob - Needs a 20A double pole switched fused spur...

Looking at instructions for installation for Baumatic BHI300 it requires a 20A Double pole (3mm separation) switched fused spur, I quote pretty well verbatim from the pdf manual! I have never heard of such an accessory, but I have lived a sheltered life and willing to be surprised. Anyone heard...

Implications of replacing a 40A with a 125A rotary isolator.

If the 40A isolator had heat damage then it was probably not rated for the current drawn by the item it isolates. Putting a 125A isolator to handle that current is probably the wisest thing to do given that someone may have done the maths on the problem and came up with the need for a 125A isolator.

    Is this meter redundant?

It should have two isolators one for the d.c. side and one for the ac/inverter output side.

    C-TEC fire alarm compatibility

Yeh agree with above. It was fortunate I read the manufacturers instructions and realised this was not the usual or expected type of wiring. Could have been a real pain had I not carefully observed the instructions. Which I had to get on-line.

Does anyone know what RCD fault he is talking about

Tbh I always get anxious when attending an RCD tripping as it can be such odd things like strapping cables need reversing, or someone just steamed off the wall paper with no evidence of it, and there is water in a socket and other weird events. Real bit of detective work sometimes.

Does anyone know what RCD fault he is talking about

I think @littlespark answered the question. Or at least that's the best stab in the dark so far as there is little to go on. But it sounds no different to turning on the circuits one by one and as stated, you now might know which circuit it is, However that does not identify the precise fault...
