Self employed guy working for us doing work direct for our client.

Not sure I agree. He could have spoken to me about it first which is all I would ask, but I take your point about employing him. Very expensive option though considering he’s earning about £45000 from us presently which will only push my rates up. Seems counter productive considering that he is...

Self employed guy working for us doing work direct for our client.

Client can ask entirely whom they want to do the work, but if they ask the very guy (who is not a registered electrician) and who the client knows is in employ of someone who was their previous contractor, and more to the point, the guy whom they have asked is still in the employ of said...

My issue is that if he is happy to do this now, why wouldn't he do it with a client who we worked for a year ago? What is off limits?

And that is my thought too. Destroys any trust.

Self employed guy working for us doing work direct for our client.

Yes he has worked for us for over ten years on and off. He still works for us. He gets the vast majority of his work from us to the tune of about £45000 a year.

I get all of that and no he's not under any contract. But as I've just asked Tel, what then is a past client and what is a current client?

So how long would be ok? He was in the restaurant (our client) eating with his Mrs and was asked by the owner. Subby has done work at the restaurant and at the clients house with us in the past.

Its a restaurant who we worked for. not sure what the work was. Why does it matter?

We have a chap who works for us a lot and who is self employed. We have found out that he may have done some work recently for one of our clients who we have not done anything for in about 6 years or so. Just wondered what your view is on him doing work for a client of ours, albeit 6 years ago...

    Pricing for trench work

Hi guys. We have been asked to price for some floodlighting and this will involve a substantial amount of trench work through a field and then six larger holes for columns. How would you guys price this and the other ground work involved in the sand blinding for the cables and concreting for the...

I presume you mean a true earth and not one connected to the household electrical system?

    Multiple BT points...help..

If it were me I would run cat5e or 6 from a convenient central point (Where the master could be installed) with a view of installing a patch panel. These could then be used for telecom or anything else and youd just put the appropriate socket on the end. You could then have as many as you wanted...

I don’t see any real danger having taken into account loads on both circuits. As for the regs that it contravenes, it would depend on how you interpret the regs. I have had this arguement with SC and others before now and it all came down to how we interpreted the regs. Most of the her post...

Why wouldn’t you? 1592682785 I’m sorry, I didn’t write that! That was a post from SC. I accidentally quoted it and spent the next 20mins and two bottles of beer trying to delete it in the edit option!

[/QUOT We are indeed talking about a circuit serving sockets in this thread and not lighting or circuits serving appliances so I’m not sure why you brought these scenarios in to it? As you said, there are only standard circuits in BS7671 for final circuits supplying multiple socket outlets.

Sorry, a figure of 8 is a ring with an interconnection making it look like a figure of 8 diagrammatically. This could be a single cable linked across both halves of the ring or a single outlet with four cables at it. Either way it is by definition a figure of 8! Based on your own description...

Absolutely spot on. What on earth is the point in producing a book on how electrical installations should be carried out if an installer then makes up his or her own guildines? We go back to college every three to four years at substantial cost, to ‘learn how to use‘ this British Standard so...

    Ring main.

That doesn’t answer my question as to whether the OP had made sure that they are both rings. In answer to your statement, whether it’s a Reg or not, the options it gives do not include bunching two rings into an OCPD (which by the way would be a figure of 8, which you test for when doing an...
