Do you do jobs for cash, and then not declare it with the taxman? (voters in the poll are private!!!)

The VAT people are banned from taking even so much as a cup of tea from you when they come visiting for one of their nice and friendly inspections. It would seem that HMRC is worried that their inspectors heads will be turned and that they might then "overlook" the postage stamps that you...

I've created some new forum categories, we're not a UK-only forum anymore

So, you will be using a geolocation service to determine where somebody is posting from - yes? Do I understand this correctly? And if so, then surely it makes much more sense and makes for much less confusion if the flag that you display is based on the country that the poster declared when...

    SWA gland earthing

I imagine an impact driver is considered de rigueur by anybody tempted to use this fixing method.

    SWA gland earthing

Agreed.... up to a point. Swarf is an issue wherever / whenever it is created, but it is much easier to manage if drilling the holes in the traditional manner where the inevitable creation of swarf is uppermost in one's mind. Self-drilling screws, IMV, create swarf "silently" in the sense...

    SWA gland earthing

What worries me about the use of self-drilling screws as that they shed swarf (as shown in the picture provided). I would be terrified that some of this could end up in locations where it could cause a breaker to fail to operate in an emergency.

Has the 'Respected Member' tag had its day?

His peers may very well do, but people that pop in for a bit of urgent advice do not have the luxury of having built up a long history of understanding who's who. I think some kind of badge helps them as they have no other basis upon which to judge whether the advice offered by one is any...

    Red or Brown Sauce?

Very far from universally true - many standard food items are a significantly enhanced taste experience with the addition of a decent sauce.

    Red or Brown Sauce?

He sounds like a dangerous chap to share a van with. The over-pressure from the explosion would quite likely rupture the side panels.

    Red or Brown Sauce?

Anyone for a spot of Henderson's Relish? Or perhaps you would prefer the slightly more up tempo item:

    Red or Brown Sauce?

Yeah, that annoyed the hell out of me as well. Still can't do without it though.

    Red or Brown Sauce?

No, but it is still way better than generic 'brown'. Also i am currently getting into Reggae Reggae Sauce as a vastly superior replacement for 'red' (even Heinz) sauce.

    Red or Brown Sauce?

    Definitely over.

    Red or Brown Sauce?

Neither 'red' nor 'brown' but only Genuine HP all the way - whether bacon or sausage. Note that HP most definitely does not equal 'brown' (a substance best reserved for cleaning metals with, not applying to gourmet foods of the type being discussed here).

To qualify for the FiT payments the system has to have been installed by an "approved" supplier.

    Welcome to the new forum

I usually get a digest of the most popular threads come through on a Saturday afternoon but not yesterday. Do I need to do anything do re-enable this?

Atoms don't go anywhere. Only electrons do. To put electricity into the grid simply regulate the output of the inverter to be slightly higher than the incoming grid voltage. Simples!

Huh? Surely, if there are no ads then there would be no need to disable adblock?

Water heating is always a good way of soaking up "excess" electricity... ...until the water boils of course. :D
