    Trainee Info For Mentors Benefit

okay, i'm gonna use what i got in my head to cobble together some kinda setup, maybe between us we can work this out.. so i'm thinking it would most likely be a diesel genny (or similar fuel) as an always available backup to charge the batteries in case the power is out for a while. in normal...

    Trainee Info For Mentors Benefit

hey, i'm 28 and currently getting absolutely nowhere on completing the NVQ portfolio! started it in april i think, but don't really know how to begin on the writeups (though i've got plenty of photos). gonna have to sit down with it properly sometime, but to be honest i just get distracted as...

    Please Read This Guys

sounds exciting. for me, these modern courses can mean that you maybe miss out on some learning that you might get from an apprentiship where you constantly have a mentor helping to educate you, putting you in new situations to improve your knowledge and experience, so a place in here where...

    3kw Heater on a 13a Socket

    water heater fault finding

thanks again for all the suggestions. i didn't see any obvious thermal cut out reset, but there was continuity through the stat. filled it up with water and the L/N-E IR came back fine still so i checked water temperature and powered on. another thermometer reading about five minutes later...

    water heater fault finding

cheers for the responses guys. looks like tomorrows project will be digging in the plumbing box, or involve a funnel and a jug :)

    AM2 assessment

yeah table 51 seems pretty clear on it to be honest (and is always gonna supercede an unaffiliated website.. ) you didn't mention asking permission to isolate the DOL circuit? maybe it was assumed as part of the isolation and locking off so forgive me asking, but i've heard it's an easy place to...

    water heater fault finding

evening guys, the forum has been reminding me it's been a while since i posted, but everytime i think to post about something it turns out most everything is actually in those yellow tomes and associated texts if you actually look for it  just looking for a bit of advice on faultfinding...

All these courses are confusing me - starting from scratch

hey, looks like you've already got it sussed - the NVQ3 and 17th are what you're aiming for to start. don't bother with any other 'installer' package. that means c&g 2365 level 2 is the first thing to start on. the fast track packages are a way to get the qualifications soonest, which will help...

    Course Work Woes

there's an example in the course textbook. should only take five minutes, done, and you can still make last orders.. ;)

    Now that's bright!!!!

yeahh, that and francium are the two that stand out from school! :tongue3: you'd want some serious safety shades before running in there.. ?!

    A weeks work experience

surprised there were no immediate takers, sounds like a great offer and if this position is still not filled then i'd certainly be keen for the experience. will send a PM. cheers

    Master and Slave PIRs

hey, for the first time i've recently come across master and slave PIRs in some of the corridors and rooms we've been second fixing. i've asked a couple of the installers and they didn't really seem to know much about them or why they would be specifically used, and i've struggled to find...

Applying for a ECS trainee card

yeah, not listed on the website as a main card, but if you download the application form (it's a standard form) and get to the section where it asks you to put the reference letter for your occupation you can refer to appendix D and put electrical labourer, or actually just seen electrical...

Applying for a ECS trainee card

hi, yeah i think this isn't really very clear when applying for an ECS card in that position. i applied for "electrical labourer" rather than trainee, which is all you need to get you onsite and then it can be upgraded to approved electrician when qualified.

    Ex forces looking for advice

hey Daryl, hightower has it right with that. there's much better options out there. to be honest that seems like a bit of a joke. you'd learn more working as a mate for a week than in the first week of that course. a load of the stuff in there seems to just be making up numbers, and including a...

    Ring

hi pete, for clarification, what would be the preferred method in that situation? testing it as a radial is how we were taught at college, though reading GN3 it makes the point that the cpc at least must be connected to the MET, so i guess it'd make sense to at least have the line conductors...

    Ring

That's the trick, once you've confirmed continuity it's effectively only three wires you got there. Just make sure the other ends are away from you when testing!

    Ring

Think of the very first test you do on a ring final circuit circuit..
