Fusing of fans to comply with manufacturers recommended instructions

I’ve been through that thought process myself - but tend to use Hager or MK boards - neither of which have 3 amp MCB’s. I am now just choosing fans where the manufacturer does not stipulate 3 amp...

Type C MCB needed for EV Charging?

Unfortunately I have asked Contactum if I can use their CP range in this board - and they said no - and recommended a board change!

Type C MCB needed for EV Charging?

Thanks for that detailed reply. Good information. It seems to make sense to go with a type C if I can find one, and the circuit is very short.

    Just spotted that - cheers.

Type C MCB needed for EV Charging?

Hi all, I've not a lot of experience with EV but was called to a local job to investigate a loss of power to a 32amp 7.2KW EV charger. It turned out the 32A MCB (Type B) had failed, and would not even operate when completely removed from the board. I happened to have a matching Contactum B32...

Antique Chandalier - with no earth...

Aw no - I can’t believe I spelt it wrong. That’s apawling spelling.. I’m just going to call them ‘big old lights’ from now on..

Antique Chandalier - with no earth...

Thinking it through and considering that; 1. The wiring looks to have been professionally done, and is correctly terminated and secure in plastic lampholders with no inner insulation showing. 2. Cable has only been lighting secured to the frame with ultra thin tie wire with no damage to the...

Antique Chandalier - with no earth...

That's exactly what its like. Lots of loose fitting rods and chains and the like.

Antique Chandalier - with no earth...

Thanks Buzz. I’m wondering how to work that though - as the lamp holders are plastic with two terminals. There are a couple of specialist companies that ‘electrify’ antique chandeliers. I am wondering what they use - but I suspect it’s 2 core double insulated for plastic lamp holders or 3 core...

Antique Chandalier - with no earth...

Thanks Westward. The one in the image I’d happily take as double insulated - I guess that’s my call. The other one though - I would class as insulated and sheathed...

Antique Chandalier - with no earth...

Exactly. There are some tiny bolted connections in the structure with what look like hand cut nuts ?! Not for the faint hearted trying to get an earth to it - and it will always be visible if I went down that route. A nice bit of green and yellow on a chandelier?

Antique Chandalier - with no earth...

I took a few photos but they were all pretty poor. I was trying to keep the light in its transportation box....

Yes. I put a new board in a couple of months ago.

Antique Chandalier - with no earth...

Hi all. So I have been asked to install a couple of 18th century antique chandeliers that have previously been ‘electrified’ (customers words!). Anyway I am but uneasy about it in terms of earthing. There is the kind of 2 core cable you sometimes get with modern double insulated pendants lights...

    RCB Tripping Advice Please

I’ve only ever used the Click junction boxes for 60 amp. I think they are the Mutts. I can’t imagine introducing a fault in one of them - that would take real - errr - skill? In my head I can see the cut end of the cable causing the fault.

    RCB Tripping Advice Please

Hello. It sounds like you have a neutral to earth fault - possibly in the junction box you have put in - or at the end of the new cable you have put in. There will be some current in the neutral if it is connected into the consumer unit - and if that current leaks to earth then you have an...
