    Ring main,going going gone

Interesting discussion! Apologies to the original poster for derailing the post. Yep. I know that. I don’t feel like I’m missing the point. Could one of the 2.5mm legs get overloaded if continuity in line or neutral lost around the ring part? Anyway - definitely different opinions. I read...

    Ring main,going going gone

543.2.9 I’ve Not got my book with me right now - but I believe it states that the CPC’s of a ring final need to be taken all the way back to the origin of the circuit, and for me the origin of a circuit is where the OCPD is. I think the ring of the lollipop is exactly that - a ring. If that...

    Ring main,going going gone

Interesting - thanks Murdoch - but I think it’s more ring than radial. Why bother having two legs in a ring from that connection point? To share the load? To use smaller cable? If so - isn’t that what a ring is for. I’ve recently had my scheme assessment - and my assessor was pretty adamant...

    Ring main,going going gone

That other length of cable would need to be to a distribution board - then the ‘circuit’ starts from there. I think the reg. refers to when people try to run a bit of cable into a junction box then start a ring from there - which is what the word ‘lollipop’ means to me. I think ‘lollipops’ are...

Help on installing a new Zanussi Oven

The current carrying capacity of 1.5mm flex is actually sufficient for this load. Immersion heaters are often 3KW and often wired in 1.5mm from the flex outlet plate to the heater. Saying all that though there are people here who prefer to use 2.5mm, and I’d be reluctant to use 1.5mm in this...

I don’t know about feared, but it was pointed out to me recently that lollipop circuits are not compliant. Reg 543.2.9 in the 18th. Not sure about previous editions to be honest.?

Replacing bathroom pull switch with dimmable pull switch

That’s not a neutral at your original switch - that’s a switch line (that becomes live when the pull chord is - erm - pulled! Maybe the instructions you have with your new switch will tell you that you need a neutral.... Beaten to it by Wilko! What’s this, fastest fingers first?

Shaver Socket from a Ring Final

Yep. It’s got to be the way to go.

Shaver Socket from a Ring Final

I think they'll be a lot of examples of it - but I cannot see any real risk with the set-up. Does not mean I'm going to do it though - I am going to fuse it down. To ambiguous an issue not to.

Shaver Socket from a Ring Final

@Marcus Vaughan , does that one on the van still have its MIs? Maybe they improved protection on later units to avoid the need for an FCU. I just had a look, pulled it out of the box, but no instructions with it?

Shaver Socket from a Ring Final

That makes sense. I can see it now at the top of Appendix 15 - as you say - references BS1363 only. That’s good enough for me, advisory or otherwise. 3 amp fused spur it is . I still don’t think I would code it on an EICR though, and come to think of it I have seen the spurred direct of a ring...

Shaver Socket from a Ring Final

Thanks for that - and that's what I have quoted for. I just think, if I found it set up without the fusing down if doing an EICR then it would be a n0-code. Interesting....

Shaver Socket from a Ring Final

Nothing about fusing down - I've been looking at an MK Logic Plus (have had one in my van for 18months!). I note that the terminals will take 2 of 2.5mm or even 1 of 4mm - seems a bit keen that for 200mA ?!

Shaver Socket from a Ring Final

I took a photo of the consumer unit - 'upstairs sockets' on a B32. Gotta be a ring!

Shaver Socket from a Ring Final

Thanks for the reply. Its a standard RCD protected split board. Routing the cable should be OK - the bedroom socket is literally on the other side of the wall - just need a bit of luck with studs and noggins etc. I think I'm wondering whether I need to fuse it down....

Shaver Socket from a Ring Final

Hi All, A customer has asked for a shaver socket to be installed in his bathroom. The only issue is that there is no lighting circuit available (loft conversion above and no access to the eaves). His idea was to come off a socket in a bedroom on the other side of a stud wall to the proposed...

    Are my notches big enough?

A pull up bar. Probably a 3m length of joist with the notch about 500mm from the end? Though you can’t really call it a joist anymore...

When I found the same in my house I told my wife to think light thoughts when having a bath!:p
