    EICR ....I was amazed !

I will say thanks to the OP for posting this. The more EICR’s or codings we share the better I think. It seems the norm for a bit of healthy discussion as to what code to give. The regs can be ambiguous and open to interpretation to a point - but this report is way off - C1 happy. C1 is of...

Has this consumer unit been installed correctly?

    Not tried those yet. Recommended?

Has this consumer unit been installed correctly?

Hmmmm. I’ve just come across a CU much worse than this on an EICR. It’s a new customer so I quoted £400 for a new consumer unit, new bonding, a couple of hours of other remedial work. The £400 fee included the EICR which took much of a day. He’s knocked me back - saying I should do it all for...

I thought the same - looks like half indoor and half outdoor?

Trust a trader, checkatrade, rated people

You’ve just summed up my last two years! But the vast majority of work I get now is by word of mouth - so all good. My worry though is that the way customers look for work has changed - and just see the easy way forward when they see these schemes advertised on telly etc...

Trust a trader, checkatrade, rated people

Actually had a check-a-trade rep come round my house yesterday. 3 months free trial - but then £84 a month. Seems too steep for me - as a sole trader. I’ve used MyBuilder a bit - which is pay per lead. Those jobs all seem to be pretty small - just ‘fillers’ really. I am thinking customers like...

    EICR - Code 1 or 2 - for unenclosed conductors in choc-blocs?

They have been a lot of help (yes I have been following my own post:)). It's interesting to see different peoples take on it and the way to approach it all. I'm not a big fan of carrying out EICRs because of the ambiguity of it all, and some of the things we find are astonishing and don't seem...

    EICR - Code 1 or 2 - for unenclosed conductors in choc-blocs?

Definitely dog-rough and will be back very soon. The consumer unit is a big fat C1 all over - no blank plates on missing MCB's, no busbar guard, some pretty big holes etc. Found 2 radial sockets on incorrect MCB's (B32 and B40 on 2.5mm) (Fixed that on the spot). No bonding to water...

    EICR - Code 1 or 2 - for unenclosed conductors in choc-blocs?

Hi all, I've got a couple of examples of this; on a domestic EICR. I'm on the fence with the coding - C1 or C2. There is no copper showing on the live parts - but I wouldn't like to grab it. I just want to be consistent with this - I mean if it was just bare conductors twisted together...

Next step with regards to training . .

Welcome. I have done a ‘Domestic Installer’ course a couple of years ago and have been working self employed since, and I’m not alone with this. That being said it’s not an easy route. The DI courses just about cover the basics and not a lot more. The difference between wiring up a light in a...

Fusing of fans to comply with manufacturers recommended instructions

Seems like a plan. Another plan would be to use manufacturers that do not stipulate the 3amp fuse. I've stopped using Manrose, and am now using Envirovent. I see Greenwood don't ask for a 3 amp fuse either.

Fusing of fans to comply with manufacturers recommended instructions

Sorry - that's not good enough for me to not follow Manufacturers Instructions. I still don't see why some people think the MCB will disconnect before the fuse.

Fusing of fans to comply with manufacturers recommended instructions

    2. A 3a FCU offers no discrimination against a 6a MCB in spite of 'Contacts' post above. Why are so many people saying this? If you look at the time/current trip curves - then the 3amp fuse will trip first? Am I missing something?
