Megger 1553 from around 2008, never missed a beat and Megger 1720 (Vintage unknown but I've had for 3 1/2 years now.) It was saved from ending up in a skip as it wasn't carrying out Zs tests quick tinker later and a little drop of solder and it works like new and at calibration the results are...
quite hard to tell without something to gauge against or actually seeing in person but my best guestimate would be 25mm.
It might be an idea to get some cuttings of cable to familiarise yourself with them until you become proficient at identifying the sizes?
Never seen one like that before the control gear must be up in the ceiling. Can only hope it’s well fixed to something substantial I’d imagine it would be a fairly weighty beast
And they hurt I’ve had a few belts through my own stupidity and by far the worst was from borrowed neutrals they don’t just fry you they burn you too :coldsweat:
Welcome to the forum mate. Where in Scotland you setting up? We are based in Inverclyde.
I’m going to say forget the so called going rate and charge what your Worth. You don’t have to compete on price because someone will always do it cheaper and all you’ll do is help devalue our trade by...
Yeah I’d definitely consider getting the DNO or the electricity board out to have a look.
also I’d look into having an electrician swing by for a gander and possibly an EICR (electrical installation condition report) because from the photo the installation looks poorly done especially with the...
Don’t want you citing me as the reason if it all went to s**t you see. never assume ;) what I probably should have said was measure the PSCC at source and calculate the PSCC at the end then go from there and double check once installed and by the way I was already typing before you came back...
In real life it will be fine as it’s an RCBO. However Technically it’s a bad design because it doesn’t satisfy the max Zs as prescribed for a type B 63amp “MCB” and another method of protection may satisfy the calcs for max disconnection time such as a different rating or even a fuse. But...
I don’t know why but when i saw this I just thought of this as personal protection equipment. on a more serious note I like the gloves that leave your three fingertips out of your doing a lot of work outside in the cold and I have black latex free gloves for working on things that need to stay...
Over £50.00 for the UK mainland
Over 250.00 go the Highlands and Islands, Over £350.00 for Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland Isle of Man & Scilly Isles Over 75:00 for the Channel Islands
As in most cases would the cable feeding the new sockets and the method of protection ie RCD spur etc so most of the time sticking in an RCBO would be the best way forward
And so when replacing a consumer unit having altered the characteristics of each circuit care must be taken to ensure that...
This is exactly the reg I’m after  I think I haven’t been clear as to what I meant by bringing the installation up to current standards... what I was meaning was for example sticking in an RCBO in place of an MCB when you add in extra sockets etc
