    Certification software

I use Easycert on the iPad which I find brilliant, doesn't require an internet connection and works completely offline. Haven't used it myself but Electraform is highly rated, its a web browser based software so you will require 4G/internet connection whilst using it - depends on your needs.

    Faulty Aqualisa shower

Have spoken to Aqua Lisa in the past about an intermittent problem, they actually told me to turn the unit off completely for 30-40 mins which has worked for me previously on 2 occasions.

    DIY Very Big Bang

There should be RCD protection on those tails as they're buried <50mm without mechanical protection. The only way unfortunately would be to dig it out to inspect further and potentially replace... Looking at it the left hand side earth cable (looks like a 10mm from picture) could be connected...

    Anyone tried these before..?

Would highly recommend them and I use them daily, shears are perfect for tails etc.

Advice on getting back into the industry

You may be in luck and can carry on with you NVQ you started with - don't think they've changed the coarse code for a few years. I would start phoning local electricians and just get your name out there, you might get the odd day here and there from people but thats how it all starts - down to...

    Questions about choosing RCBOs

Use the Wylex miniature RCBO's myself and find them to be brilliant with no issues, have tried the Hager reduced RCBO's but prefer the Wylex boards - personal opinion! Where a client wants to save a little on cost I'd fit Contactum which are similarly priced to Lewden.

PVC mini trunking cutters, your thoughts, are they any good@

Use the CK variant for trunking (MMT2) and conduit for years, won't get a cleaner cut and no clearing up to do after - would recommend! https://www.amazon.co.uk/C-K-T2240-C-K-Multi-Cutter-Set/dp/B003JFYKJU/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=ck+multi+cutter&qid=1557947332&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Any recommendations for some cable shears?

Knipex installation pliers breeze through 25mm tails and have a lot more functions that are useful - I wouldn't do without them now...

    Bosch Professional impact driver

Got a lot of Bosch gear and very pleased with it all, owned over the past 5/6 years and haven't had any issues with any items. Wouldn't mind a DAB radio though!

    Best RCBO consumer unit

I personally prefer Wylex boards with their miniature RCBO's if cost allows, if trying to keep cost down a bit I tend to install Contactum although they're not the prettiest of units if on show. Would be worthwhile speaking to your electrician first as he/she may have a preference, they might...

recommend wireless room thermostat & programer

If you don't go down the Hive or Nest route, the Honeywell programmable wireless thermostats are probably the next best thing - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Honeywell-CMT927A1049-Chronotherm-Programmable-Thermostat/dp/B003DTG65I

Type A RCDs Vs Type AC

I've used a number of the Wylex Type A miniature RCBO's, have had no problems whatsoever testing at 30mA & 150mA.

    First NIC assessment

If your name is on the certificate as the installer and actually has been notified I don't see there being an issue. I did exactly the same when I first went with Stroma and they were fine with it.

City and Guilds 2357 NVQ conversion

If you've been in the game for longer than 5 years you'll be referred to as a "mature candidate", this will enable you to bypass some of the units within the NVQ that an apprentice would have to. Small radials will be more than enough, you'd be asked to do the radials in different installations...

    Recommended CCTV systems

Hikvision is what I tend to install and can't fault it, tend to fit their 4MP domes which I find to be brilliant. Cat 6 cable from central point (where you'll be fitting the NVR) to each camera location, cable from NVR to router to allow them access via smartphone app and you're more or less...

Entering the world of self employment

I went Stroma for the first year going SE due to cost, during that time got in with estate agents and some commercial clients that insisted on NICEIC Approved Contractor status - which I've now been for 2 years. You do pay a premium for NICEIC but as others have said they're the most...
