Exposed T and E's during test.

Bit of a goatish question, but at least he asked, and didn't just condemn the job and sell the customer a new fireproof cu like many would have done....

25mm split con sub main eicr code?

Thanks, C3 it is....forever! Can't see this one being fixed for a few years yet!

Joining 16 or 25mm Earth Cable

Twist together in a clever braid style, followed by a roll of g/y tape for a professional finish.

25mm split con sub main eicr code?

Exactly....that's my dillema...what is the 'improvement recommended'? Split con conforms to BS7870, so we're not into SY/CY arguments, only change so far as I can tell, was that it was delisted as being suitable for being buried in building fabric less than 50mm deep without additional...

25mm split con sub main eicr code?

Just done an EICR on a domestic, the sub main running from origin to cu is 25mm split con. Hard to know if its more than 50mm deep in walls etc without intrusive investigation. So could run with FI, but obv that doesn't deliver a satisfactory report. Bit of a tricky one as it would have complied...

Single phase power all thats avaiable for new workshop build

I honestly think you could get a half decent 3 phase genset and years worth of diesel for less than the cost of getting the dno to upgrade. As far as I know these can be run on red diesel so less tax than road fuels. At the very least it gets the business up and running, bringing in revenue to...

    Installing garden post lights

Some of the slimmer bollard lights are too thin to fit a conduit box in. These look very similar to the last set of these I had to install...caught me out, ended up using resin Y joints buried adjacent to bollard, with a tail up into the bollard connected directly to the lampholder.

Can I use the sheath of the SWA as the CPC in this example?

None of my wholesalers stock 2core SWA. Seems to suggest the lack of understanding of the use of armour as cpc is widespread...I got funny looks asking for 2 core, turned into a sheep and use 3 core with sleeving!

    Garage feed under neighbors drive

Just wait til they've gone to work, and mole it straight through...nobody will be any the wiser, and everyone will have saved a fortune on very expensive bits of paper.

No....book in the office. However, I do recall looking it up some years back and realising that the master of pedantry was correct!

    Cables and Zones

If anyone remembers that bloke BAS from some of the DIY forums....he used to go on and on and on...about this amongst everything else! Safe zone is only formed by an accessory for cables serving that accessory...so the socket doesnt comply to the letter of the regs...however common sense...

    Crimper manual/hydraulic hex/indent?

I've got a set of those blue handled jobs. Also slightly dubious about quality. 25 and 35mm crimps work OK, but for some reason using 10mm die on 10mm lug on 10mm cable doesn't work. Have to use 6mm die, which then 'pinches' the lug a bit. Does seem to be a good connection though. Interested in...

    Spur from 32MCB

I see plenty of EICRs stating that 'multiple circuits' are connected into 1 breaker and need rectifying. On inspection it's often just a spur taken from ring at MCB and no issue at all!

    Cables and Zones

I thought the safe zones only extended to the other side of the wall, when the wall is less than 100mm thick? Which is fine for internal partitions, but a bit tricky on an external wall. Can't remember where I saw that, so happy to be corrected.... In these situations I try to align the light...

Timber framed buildings... and the temple of doom

If it's a draughty hole from a humid room...say an outside socket fed from kithen or utility...then the volume of humid air drawn through the hole could be significant. I'd suggest that all you can do is holesaw a big enough hole in the drylining to allow access to the vcl and seal the hole with...

    Building Inspector/18th Edition

17th or 18th, metal fixings at 1500 centres would surely be compliant in terms of supporting cables to prevent entanglement. Agree that it's worth challenging the Inspector, if he's reasonable and presented with evidence he'll likely agree and gain a better understanding of the requirements...

    New Build regs on insulation

Most timber frames I've been involved with have insulation placed within the wall units, vapour barrier in front of insulation, and then 32mm counter battens to create service void and provide a fixing for plasterboard. In this scenario no cables are running within insulation itself and I...

    PME supply block of flats

Agreed, but surely this is why the 50mm bond to structural steel from the ryefield is in place. Also, any of the diverted neutral current from the PEN conductor in fault would also be shared across a number of bonds due to the duplication across units? In any event I suspect it's all completely...
