    Another extractor fan question!

I've done a couple of jobs with split lighting in the bathroom. A couple of low level LEDS near the bog on a ceilling PIR for a ---- in the night with no need for blinding lights or fan going off. Main lighting and fan set up as standard. If you need the fuse then try the click modular fan iso...

    UK Three phase testing PFC

Just re read. You only double the line neutral figure as a rule of thumb if tester can't handle line line voltage. So line line direct reading would normally be the figure recorded.

    UK Three phase testing PFC

If your tester is suitably rated, then no problem to take pscc line to line and record the highest value.

    Consumer Units under stairs

Yes, provided it's at the right height.....stairs in themselves not an issue.

Why do we fit a 10mm cable for showers?

Indeed, but 240 is still within the permitted voltage range of a 230V nominal supply, so you'd like to think that equipment designed to operate on a 230V supply, with design calculations using the 230V nominal figures, would be perfectly capable of safe operation at the worst case scenario...

Upgrade to Enterview 3 door entry

Hi, Got a customer who currently has an Enterview 3 system, 1 mag lock, 1 external unit and 4 handsets over 4 floors. They want to upgrade to something more modern, this isn't my main area of expertise so looking for some ideas. Most new systems seem to be network enabled, so poss could ditch...

Splitting 25mm meter tails to SWA and 25mm tails

Sounds like a job to walk away from then. Can't win them all.

Splitting 25mm meter tails to SWA and 25mm tails

Suspect he's trying to avoid the requirement for 30mA additional protection, not ideal for a sub main. Second meter box for switch fuse got to be the best plan if there is room on the wall. Can be cut in without disturbing inner skin and decorations, problem solved. Unless of course there are...

    HMO Room Wiring

See quite a few hmos intended for student accomodation. LA requirements quite strict in terms of fire and em lighting, fridge freezer volume, worktop area etc. Many of the larger ones have 2 hobs and 2 or 3 ovens and fridge freezers.. Never heard of a requirement for individual cu in each room...

Intermediate switch to fixed always on

Probably more like connect one l1 to 1 l2, and the other l1 to the other l2.

    Wiska boxes (below ground)

I had to dig up some wiska boxes without gel last year. Not installed by us! They were full of water and soil...not recommended! For those that do use the gel, I'm curious how you guys make off the SWA? Cw glands and knuckle dusters? Would have imagined even cws would let damp into armour and...

Intermediate switch to fixed always on

It's perfectly possible to bypass the intermediate switch and connect the wires through with wago connectors in back box. You could then fit a single gang switch or keep the 2 gang and just have 1 ineffective switch.

    Containment for tails

I'd be tempted to use SWA made off in a small adaptable box within meter box in this scenario. And if SWA more than 3m then use a switch fuse in place of adaptable box. Seen a few new builds recently with 2 meter boxes side by side for this purpose. Metering kit in one, switch fuse in other one...

UK Wago 773 173 advice please

I thought every appliance in France tended to be on its own radial, hence why most dishwashers and the like are conveniently rated at 10A? Not completely au-fait with French wiring regs, this is just an observation based on what I've seen. Big CU's with plenty of dual pole mcbs often labelled up...

    16th ed. Tt install...only 1 RCD

Yep I could 30mA the final cct for immersion. But Zsdb at sub board is 12 Ohms....so an earth fault on T&E sub main would not trip any protective devices. This, and the fact all the other non RCBO/non RCD side circuits are left unprotected bothers me. On this occassion we haven't added any...

    16th ed. Tt install...only 1 RCD

Been to a job today, rewire Immersion cct to suit new cylinder pos. Did Zs got 12 ohm....looked a little closer... Immersion fed from b16 breaker from main switch sub board. Sub board fed via 16mm T&E submain from MCB on non RCD side of DB1. DB1 supplied direct from cutout, typical 16th split...

    Building Regulations breached?

I very much doubt that the floor inspection involved measuring the drain position to the nearest 10mm! Probably more concerned with the beams having correct spacing and bearings, dpcs in place, vents in place etc. Additional meter box likely added due to requirement from network operator that...

    Ireland Customers wanting receipts

Yep this sort of thing properly winds me up. There is a breed of householder out there who seem to think that we are minions to do their bidding, like spending time and diesel doing their shopping for them, with no margin. The same types tend to be the ones that compare labour rates to their...

    New MFT Required....but which one?

Thanks, yes I do like the new Meggers, 1741 was the one I was looking at mainly due to this new no trip loop algorithm. I've noticed big problems with the 1552 loop testing lighting ccts with leds, the noise symbol appears and the number is meaningless. Anyone with the 1741 found the loop...
