    Swa size

You are spot on. I was only joking. In the real world a 6mm swa will suffice for a long long long time . truth be told a 2.5 wouldn't come to any harm either. There is never likely to be any substained load on this cable

    Advice on pricing a homer

Think of a number. Double it then add 10%. Double it again then add another 10%. You will probably make enough for a couple pints after that. Happy days

    lathe and plaster and downlights!!!

I've installed downlights in l&p, ceilings many times without any comeback. It does, however make you wonder because you are installing lights in contact with a flammable surface. But apart from this place , the other place is the real world. In the world of regulation you wouldn't install a...

    9.5 kW shower on 2.5!!!

I'm really sorry my terminology annoyed you so much, consider me well told off and I will stand in the corner for 20 mins. Its a common terminology up my way. I assume it comes from the old testers which basically were an audible continuity. i applied 500 volts to the cable and it gave me a...

Consumer unit question before I get a sparky in

For the sake of let's say another £500.00 a sparky could install a new board and test your whole installation. On the limited information available I wouldn't want to add to existing circuits too much . hope this helps

Getting Power to sofa in middle of lounge

I wouldn't be touching this one. Some customers have a weird perception of what our job entails. its a bit like asking a taxi driver to drive you through London but stating you don't. Want to see another bit of traffic!!

Has Electrician made a mistake with height?

I'm sorry if this across as harsh, but surely your first port of call should have been the guy who done the work. He has all the facts and could have given you the most honest answer available. Most self employed guys are hard working ,honest , chaps who rely on good rep to carry on their...

Apologies for resurrecting a very old thread, but can anywhere confirm whether I require fire hoods in a suspended ceiling (shop) with a concrete ceiling above with flats above the shop. Obviously I am not touching the integrity of the concrete ceiling. Thanks in advance.
