    Why ring circuit on 32amp??

There's more to it than overcurrent protection, think about short circuit protection.

New Mains Powered smoke alarm beta testers needed.

It's not fun but it is doable.

New Mains Powered smoke alarm beta testers needed.

I wouldn't usually cut in a box for a smoke detector if fitting off a new install. I'm in Scotland so doing my bit for the LD2 upgrades, particularly for the local authority at the moment, that's where we're finding alot of previously fitted ones with backboxes behind. The reason being that the...

New Mains Powered smoke alarm beta testers needed.

On the Aico ones it can be. It's due to being off-centre and there being too many hole options on the bases. I've found a few times that if I've had to replace a new style Aico base like for like it's common that the last man in had lined up the wrong fixing holes which means the overlap on the...

New Mains Powered smoke alarm beta testers needed.

Aico now have the same base for all of their mains-powered products: smoke, heat, co & multi-sensor which is great. Generally speaking if you're going back in 10 years to swap it would more than likely be like for like so not necessarily an issue to have different sizes for different detectors...

I always thought heat pumps were expensive waste of time

When I said new build I didn't mean the usual "thrown up in the hundreds", Persimmons type of thing. Fortunately nothing of scale happens up here aside from local authority stuff. I meant single house sites, private homes, self builds & the like. Little to no corners cut by most of the...

    Amendment 2 and AFDD's

Maybe we should be pushing for the white goods industry to stop throwing cheaper & cheaper components into their appliances then we wouldn't have this problem!

I always thought heat pumps were expensive waste of time

ASHPs aren't the best solution for every house but that doesn't mean they don't have their place. Here in the north of Scotland there aren't many places outside of Inverness that have mains gas. The video is correct in that they are not suitable for many older houses but in new builds they can...

UK Gas Cooker conked and electrical cooker replacement

It's not as simple as that. The information in your OP has conflicting information where you mention the current setup is connected to the kitchen ring then, mention it's possibly a 6mm at the sw FCU. Without knowing what the true setup is then any advice given might be wrong.

Dodgy trade pictures for your amusement! - 1 Million Views!

Needless to say, the list of things right in that house would be shorter than that of what's wrong. Got to 30 observations then gave up filling in the cert to be honest. Socket outlets in the bathrooms, very little to no earth sleeving used, bad connections at most accessories inspected...

    Where's the earth go?

Those little white connection boxes usually have a rubber "boot" of sorts on the incoming side that would cover where the unsheathed bits are. Quite often found they've not been used! In general those connectors are crap, if you had two 1mm's you're going to struggle let alot two 1.5mm's.

    The joys!!

I've fallen out a loft, it was a new build and the taper hadn't been yet thankfully. When I was an apprentice I accidentally smashed the front of an oven while manoeuvring it. Last week I forgot to plug a chest freezer back in after completing an EICR ?. Best one has to be when the boss got a...

Hive Set Up - two time clocks

Totally doable if there is two valves. You'll need one kit with the hub and everything, then you can buy a seperate heat only (no HW control) as an "add on", as in just thermo and sender.
