    Tv grid type socket outlet

Hi I've tried to search on google to find out how to connect a grid type coax tv cable. Never done one before although plenty of standard TV outlet plates. I thought it would be straight forward like I've done before. At the back 2 x small screws removed to gain access by lifting lid. I can see...

    Fused neutral cut-out

I think the DNO's are limited / restricted on how many planned shutdowns that can be carried out in same location, ie you wouldn't want your supply interrupted in a short space of time several times due to work going on locally. Emergency work of course is another matter. I would still go for...

    Fused neutral cut-out

When you have all info at hand and they still want to dig up the new tarmac that you have recently laid. Ask them instead of digging a joint hole in order to make safe your cable, ask them to carry out a local shutdown procedure. That means shutting down other properties also by giving them...

    Fused neutral cut-out

Let the forum know the out come please. Regardless of the neutral issue, as it is a metal clad cut -out, it wants changing anyhow by the DNO's own standards. The DNO should of been informed it was metal when the meter was changed. Meter fixers are not supposed to remove metal lid in order to...

    Fused neutral cut-out

Hi Dillb, On the face of it, it may sound strange. However it is deemed to be much safer to dig joint hole, cut cable safely, so as to make safe the cutout to work on. Yes, years ago jointers would off worked on the head live. i suppose it safer to work on the separate cores dead as opposed...

    Fused neutral cut-out

Re cut out change........as said earlier..DNO safe practice.....work on head dead. In order to do that joint hole required. However, as you mentioned new tarmac, ask the DNO to do the joint hole elsewhere. that may well mean doing on the public footpath ( assuming there is one) where your...

y You got me there Davesparks sorry, been out of the game toooo long. However, will your suggestion fit within the metal box?

    Metal Switch Fuse SWa connection

Yes, to confirm. CPC from con/unit to metal box, so box earthed. SWA going out, therefore armour earthed at box. is it best practice these days to fit a banjo as well.

    Metal Switch Fuse SWa connection

Possibly an unusual question really. I'm fitting a metal surface box in order to terminate a SWA cable. I'd like to fit a switch fuse spur point. My concern is from memory, years ago, that some accessories may clash with the SWA gland / locknut at point of entry. Is that still the case these...

    Smoke-Heat-Carbon detectors

Thats the beauty of this forum.....electricians all work from the same book, but have different opinions. I personally don't see anything wrong with the smokes on their own 1.0mm circuit. Like you say.....a lighting circuit will draw far more power than a typical smoke circuit. Possibly the reg...

    Smoke-Heat-Carbon detectors

I know this is an old subject re own circuit, or on with light circuit. I tended to go with own circuit with few jobs that I have done when doing complete rewires. but this has come to light with using Kiddie which state must be 1.5mm. I now know thanks to the forum, that only light circuits can...
