    Need help with control panels.

Theres no maintenance spark on site. I did get help from another guy in work who works with panels. But we couldnt suss out how to get it working as a single cycle button press. More brain power needed, more knowledge needed on my part, hence why im enquiring here as to how others learned and...

    Need help with control panels.

Thanks for the replies, seem to have opened a can of worms. The press worked by pressing the start button and doing one cycle, changing it to a manual way of lowering and raising surely shouldnt make that much of a difference? Theres limit switches on the door, at top and bottom and also a...

    Need help with control panels.

Is there anything out there to help me get my head round control panels and control circuits. I was stuck at a job trying to get a metal barrel press to work automatically. Press start button, press comes down, squashes everything, pressure switch activates and it comes back up and hits the...

    3 phase quarry pump

Went in yesterday morning and disconnected the pump from the circuit and tested the cables again for insulation resistance and all OK. Got the quarry operative to start it up, with the pump disconnected, and it didn't trip. Tested voltages and all were fine. So pump at fault. Didn't get a...

    3 phase quarry pump

There is 2 10mm cables coming down and are paralleled together.

    3 phase quarry pump

Test the windings to earth using an insulation resistance tester. Test between each line to earth and expect quite high readings, over 1M ohm is acceptable but I wouldn't like to walk away from a motor knowing the motor is close to that. Then remove links and go between each line and test for...

    3 phase quarry pump

Didn't take any offence from it, I love learning and find asking a forum of highly qualified and experienced people is better than just trying to muddle through it. Means I can learn different safe techniques and methods to get the result I'm after and to improve the safety. I'm not the most...

    3 phase quarry pump

Good thinking Ill put in place a phase detection relay if there isn't one already, I'm thinking there isn't. Once its lifted out ill test more effectively, my welly boots just aren't made for wading through the water to get to the pump.

    3 phase quarry pump

the pump is a 3 phase 415v setup. Top shelf - generator and control gear Middle shelf - 32a plug and isolator arrangement, 2 x 32a isolators for each 10mm cable going down and 16a for float. Bottom shelf - pump and pump panel.

    3 phase quarry pump

I tested the cable doing an insulation resistance test. The only way to do that was to disconnect the cables from the pump as they were paralleled and would have led to the same fault on both cables. So when testing each cable for insulation resistance to earth, I found one of the cables was...

    3 phase quarry pump

The cable from the bottom shelf to the pump hasn't been replaced its one of the supply cables that had a fault originally. I'm leaning towards a fault in the pump itself, possibly caused by the pump running on two phases for a period of time. Ill know more in the morning time. Thanks for the...

    3 phase quarry pump

The ends should be linked through the links on the motor terminal block. Control gear all ok, I have disconnected the pump about 15m away from it in the bottom shelf control panel. Theres only 3 wires going over so its linked out delta on the motor terminal block, I can bell between brown and...

    3 phase quarry pump

Latest fact finding mission for you gurus to help me learn about Todays problem was a quarry pump not running, guy went out and meggared the cable and pump and found one of the two 10mm cables was down on the black phase. So while cable was ordered up and being delivered he was called...

Wiring a siren through a timer

Thanks it's a slow progress learning about control circuits at the minute. Just got through star delta starters and wiring in timers for lights, there handy enough to do. I don't like not knowing things and I always seek to try and learn as much as I can as fast as I can so I can be an asset to...

Wiring a siren through a timer

Yeah sorry for the lack of info. Haven't seen the job yet so only going by what I've been told. The conveyor only starts up with the press of a button. And I've been told that the conveyor is fully guarded from top to bottom. The alarm is just to alert them that it's moving and that's what's...

Wiring a siren through a timer

Yeah the purpose of the siren is on a slew conveyor bringing sand and stone into bins. The alarm is to let everyone know the belt is running. I won't be doing the risk assessment or design for the work I've just been told what I'll be looking at at the end of the week. I gathered materials...

Wiring a siren through a timer

Someone proper is doing a risk assessment I'm only after some knowledge to help learn. I won't be doing the work unaided and without an assessment completed. Not once have I mentioned that the assessment isn't being completed either so I'm not sure where you gathered this information from. Sorry...

Wiring a siren through a timer

Haven't seen the risk assessment yet. The job isn't to start for another few days yet so I'm just nerding up and trying to figure it myself, I don't agree with it not delaying the conveyor start as it seems a more sensible choice but I'm not the manager.
