I've found stuff on Crabtree, Ellison, Klockner Moeller, Mem, Mte, English Electric but as yet nothing on Doorman Smith, I will keep looking though.
You could be right about it being custom made as Crabtree also offer that service to its customers.
I'm assuming you're not going to use BS1363 sockets to supply these heaters because if you are you'll be back time and time again replacing the charred plugs and sockets. 16a 2p+e to BS4343 would be my choice if not using fcu's.
As Mike said, it could me many things. When you say 'tripping out' does the motor's overload unit trip out or is it the panel showing a fault eg low air flow, temperature out of limits etc?
My money is on it being a metal class 2 fitting. Out of curiosity why has your curiosity not got the better of you and had it stripped it down to see for yourself? I know the very first time I came across one of these I stripped it down to make sure I didn't make a fool of myself failing a desk...
It's hard to say without being there, it could be static, what is the finished floor material made from also what footware if any are you wearing? Do you get 'shocks' from any other type of equipment?
I've heard of relationship bust ups due to the bill payer keeping a watchful eye on the usage, so the question here is do you both want the same thing?
Not cheap but also consider :C.K MightyRod PRO Cable Rods 12m Super Set T5422 - http://cktools-superstore.co.uk/epages/eshop841008.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/eshop841008/Products/T5422
I could be biased though!:)
The way I see it is it's '---- or bust', with a steady hand and a pair of small long nose pliers I would carefully have a go at straightening up those bent pins and hope that the broken one is an unused pin, after all you've nothing to lose!
