I'm not surprised.
Rule #1 of all electrical work - do not allow people to receive electric shocks!!
Regardless of the circumstances if a client of mine or anyone associated with them (or the job) had received an electric shock I'd be mortified, never mind who could be said to be at fault...
I've been using Hager for split load and Lewden for RCBO for a bit now. I was using MK for everything (in spite of the RCBO cost!) but recalls on RCBOs and Main Switches have put me right off.
I quite like the look of the reduced height RCBO Hager displayed at the ELEX in Coventry recently, but...
I think this is a very fair point too 1Justin.
A certain manufacturer (I don't remember which, though it's most likely Crabtree, Hager or Palazolli/Lewden) recommends different levels of torque dependent on size and number of cables in the relevant terminal.
That's just made my morning!!
Some problems, however rudimentary, need a new set of eyes, and it's part of the learning process for your 3rd yr apprentice to be able to get out of their own way and see just where they're being a dumbass. You'll be able to remind them of this for years....
I've been using this one (OP's poofix link) for about a year and I'm very happy with it. For mine on a deal from Eddies, about 3/4 the price of Poofix too.
I'm with you there Murdoch. I'd be inclined to do this even if it were only a two beds flat or bungalow. And RCBOs are the way forward to minimise nuisance tripping too - particularly taking the CH & DHW on its own circuit & RCD.
I invested in a Wera set some years ago, as I'm a fan of their VDE screwdrivers and driver bits for the electric driver.
Rather disappointingly, the Phillips +\-1 has broken twice, as has the torque housing on the handle. The first one went completely to pieces (at about 13 months old - no...
This would be my preferred option too; a new 32A radial circuit (A2 if I'm not mistaken) to supply the appliances alone; I'd also prefer to see one fuse only for each appliance so either 20A DO switches for isolation & unswitched 13A sockets for connection or Switched FCUs and flex outlets.
This was my first thought, if there isn't room for a ceiling rose as suggested below.
And no, I've never come across a dry lining architrave box. It'd be handy....
Is exactly what I was thinking, and what I did before I bought one of those pesky A frame spoolers most merchants seem to have. Not that they're ideal in every situation. Sometimes the kick method works perfectly adequately.
That said, a cable mate and a scaffold pole works wonders too.
Haiku-less Haikus for engineers:
"If at first you don't succeed
Read the instruction manual"
Also
"If it jams
Force it!
If it breaks
It needed replacing anyway!"
