Question About The Electrical Feed for A Shower???

I am pretty sure the immersion was 2.5mm, but without taking the cover off the JB, I am not 100% certain. What got me thinking was if the immersion feed is still live, I wonder what they did with the feeds to the showers once those showers were removed? I would like to think everything was...

Question About The Electrical Feed for A Shower???

Just a quick general question about the Regs ect concerning electric showers... I am tracing some redundant but still live wiring in my house, more out of interest in how it has been wired than any other reason. The house was built in the 90's and has the old colour wiring scheme. When built...

    Submain, RCD protection.

Sounds an interesting project! How are you housing the ferrets inside the shed? Where I used to live a chap run a small boarding kennels and the internal housing was a couple of those precast concrete "garages" that used to be popular. What he did for electrics was have all his internal...

Notches or Holes, clip or not to clip?

When I was in Germany in the 90's I came across a few of the more modern houses that had concrete for the upstairs floors and stairs and was told it was to do with their fire regs.. I'm not sure how wide spread that is over there, but their design and construction industry seems much more...

Notches or Holes, clip or not to clip?

On new builds, I am surprised that there is no requirement to clearly mark the floor boards to show cable and pipe runs... In the past,I've seen it done for short sections of such runs through door ways ect, but I think that was down to the owner rather than the contractors/builders..

Question - British Gas engineer says there is a fault ?

Why was the BG gas engineer who is obviously not an electrician checking for earth faults on an upstairs socket that is nothing to do with the boiler? I have to say that before I met her, theOH had BG on contract to look after her rather old gas boiler plus the plumbing. It seems a very...

    Buckingham Palace Rewire

I used to have dealings with the Telecoms maintenance side of things for the Palace of Westminster and would visit 3 or 4 times a year to liaise with their people. Got to given a couple of "behind the scenes" guided tours and it was fascinating to see all the hidden passageways, staircases and...

    Wall Anchor Tool Required?

They quote some impressive weight ratings on their site...The largest Blue gripit is rated to 250lb, but surely the plasterboard would have failed long before that weight was achieved?

    Wall Anchor Tool Required?

I've used those a lot over the years and quite like them for light loads although I have put up shelves in an airing cupboard and they have held quite a good weight... With regards soft plasterboard, If working at home or where I have the time, I have primed the hole with glue and effectively...

    Smart meter benefits/downfalls

I don't know for sure about the various Smart meters in operation now, but the technology to control the supply via meter is already in use with Card Meters...you run out of credit on a card meter and the power is automatically turned off... Given that smart meters are more recent development...

    Smart meter benefits/downfalls

I predict that these type of meters or rather future models, will be used to actually ration energy usage to the customer. The premise will be that if you can't manage your own energy usage, we will manage it for you... For those who scoff, it will no more than the Big Brother version of the...

    Wall Anchor Tool Required?

A friend borrowed my Wall Anchor Tool and its now buggered... This was only a cheap Silverline item and probably hasn't been used on more than a dozen fixings in its life. Looking at it, it seems one of the rivet's that act as a pivot as been ripped out of the wall of tool... I know...

    Cancellation rights trap.

I think the moral of the story is that anybody running their own business would do to get legal advice on such matters and get all their ducks in a row .... Also, as a business, is there any form of insurance that can protect you in such cases? Perhaps even legal insurance to cover legal...

    Workmanship - What to expect?

What type of screws hold the front cover on and would they be long enough if the back box was left at the current depth but the front cover mounted correctly? If the screws are long enough and the front cover can be moved "out" a cm or two, I can't see why the plastering should be too difficult...

CK Automatic or Irwin Vise Grip Wire Strippers?

Thanks...Will have to give a folder a try next time I need to strip some T&E... To be honest though, I think T&E is about the easiest thing in the world to strip. My pet hate is removing a socket faceplate and seeing the outer sheathing of the T&E left all ragged after its been split by pulling...
