Hmm. There's certainly a few sides to this. I must admit on the odd occasion I've been in situtions like this (for example in my own under stairs cupboard) I have taken a 13a FCU from adjacent RFC > 2x Sockets > 5a SWFCU acting as the light switch itself.
I think for me, in that instance it...
Very nasty little widowmaker found above a ceiling. One klik rose was perm for emergency, other was switched supply from PIR. Previous installer had bridged the lives together in the fitting in the switched terminal - so the emergency side had never worked anyway, and pins of either klik plug...
Light fittings date stamped 1996. Assuming due to the yellow flex a builder of some description has moved the lamp, sacrificing some of their 110v extension leads to relocate the light. Odd when both be light and the klik rose are quite clearly rewire able.
I often hear references to this practi e being either age related or region related. Truth be told I think installers have always just done whatever best, or personal preference. My house was built in 1982 and had absoloutely zero modifications when I got it. Downstairs was wired neutral to...
I am a Site Manager in an educational establishment. So that's heading up maintenance, risk assesments, compliance and H&S (including Fire, Water & Asbestos)
I can't speak for others, and all institutions will give you a different answer - but personally it's generally a no from me.
I happen...
Interestingly @Jon_iz the method you describe is one of the methods I use day to day - (or at least once I have removed the outermost sheath of a flex using my method). Yours is actually the earliest method I remember of being shown to strip cables by my father.
Curiously, I use the same flat...
It still looks great today. I appreciate a good conduit install and using many of the trendy techniques - but clipped direct is perfectly appropriate in many situations - and this is exactly how to do it properly. Looks better than much of the clipped direct I come across.
You may be over engineering it. Depending on the house and layout of course.
As a similar scenario, my outbuilding has an upfront RCD at 30mA at the house CU, cabled and protected accordingly. In the outbuilding (or annex as its best described) is a CU with a main switch + MCB configuration...
Yes i figured as much. In this example it could make for a nasty swap if someone were to fit a class 1 switch and not link the CPC currently terminated in the back box to new metal fitting. Interesting stuff
I have an MEM type socket in use here with clamp terminals, and also have a Britmac brand single which uses the same clamp mechanism. So I suspect there were some. Competitors!
There's many ways to skin a cat (not that I'd ever skin a cat. I love mine).
There's many different approaches to sripping. Evetually, you develop a bit of a "muscle memory" for it, and it's different for everyone.
I like to use CK redline cutters with the notch in for t&e. But i also know...
Promised I'd replace the neighbours PIR light outside their garage. One look at the quality of the installation in there (Pic 1) told me what he soon confimed "yeah, a young lad I used to know from the pub did it for me a few years ago. I think he was training". Hmm. Anyway it was on a B32...
Apologies if this is a bit of a boring one. It's purely "out of interest" as I have rather an obsession with old consumables etc (and I'm sure @Lucien Nunes will be along to tell me!)
The time finally came to replace 2x Britmac sockets. Not a problem - simply covered the existing backbox with a...
Whilst I agree (and personally would just remake the joints using something like a wagobox and appropriate wagos for mixing solid & flexible core) surely it would be "better than nothing" to just clip a 99p chocbox around it with clamps. No n eed for MF above the tile. As for ferrules, being a...
Just an aside - I've only ever been involved with UFH once so am by no means expert, but I seem to remember the installation instructions for my example demanding IR tests to be done before the mats are fitted, once they're laid down and again after the floorcovering is installed to keep an eye...
It's a bit excessive, but each to their own. My preferred method is using 50x50 trunking around the top of the workshop, with straight conduit drops to each socket/switch. I have no problem using T&E in this setting (it's quite easy, neat and no need to clip it and yes - cheaper). But sod...
