In a lovely old pump room [may share photos in another post if anyones interested as it's generally in excellent condition]. Lighting still wired in VIR singles. More recently someone has spliced in with harmonised singles to supply a row of T5 flourescents in an adjacent building...see the...
I removed some last year from a site built in 1963 - I don't think it was Crompton, Volex rings a bell.
Still have some runs of VIR singles in galv conduit at same site (the type wrapped in a hessian type braid - not the kind used on lighting pendants). Generally in very good working order and...
Surely to avoid all the debacle, a simple DP RCD or RCBO in a small enclosure to replace the FCU (assuming 16a protection at board) would be ideal? Thsi can then happily supply the relevant outlet.
It's an interestring point. However, "devils advocat" - it's possible to remove the grille of a 600x600 flouresent (and most 4ft and 5ft's) to access live terminals. Eithert by undoing a knurled screw on the 4/5ft's, or simply sliding the diffuser out on a 600x600....
I have the corresponding break glass. Huge great thing. This was installed in 1963. I have a number of the grey bells too.
This was before removal. Once removed I polished it up and it looks amazing - a nice bright red

Another little one from me (but worth a mention). Old lamp column. BS1361 fuse clearly failed / lost an end cap at some point. Fuse wire wrapped around the old one.(NB I did replace with the correct fuse)
Personally I've been unimrpessed with Mk for a number of years now. I used to buy SafetyPlugs for some jobs, but on two of them the terminal screws sheared off whilst doing up. The boards seemed to get a bit flimsy. And the sockets irritate me - I find the terminal screws a bit too small and a...
Haha thanks Wilko - that's all this is - just for fun!
Indeedidoo - definitley a post 1970 cable. I'm inclined to think it's nearer the 1970's / 1980's end of "modern" purely by the fact it has no writing whatsoever on the cable itself (I tend to find older 'modern' flexes have no BS numbers or...
