what size wire do i need for welder in garage

Hi Poke From your post I suspect you have limited experience of electric or welding? The 200/220 amp will be the welder output. Not the input. I suggest you determine what you will need to weld and then consult a welder and an electrician. Good luck.

    Insulation over LED downlights

The op doesn't state that the lights are installed, or that he has purchased them. Which is why I stated "if you haven't already purchased the fittings". So your assumption that they are fitted is pure speculation. I thought your comment regarding manufacturer recommendations was commenting...

    Ring spurred at origin?

As pete said, there isn't a rule, but there's nothing preventing it. Cable sizing in the guides are the "minimum " requirements. We don't know the cable size in the RFC that the spur is connected to. The op has never declared that. The whole thing could be in 4mm2. It's pure speculation on...

    Ring spurred at origin?

Fine, I can see that point. But isn't that down to whoever is doing the installation and not what is allowed and what isn't?

    Ring spurred at origin?

The more I read this thread the more confusing it becomes. As far as I see it, There is nothing wrong with a spur on a Rfc taken from the CU. Its in the OSG 7.2.2 para 4. The spur would normally be in 2.5mm2, but the fact that it's in 4mm2 is not a problem. (Might be a big garage, VD and...

Outbuilding supply TNC-S to TT - Oil heating system

I would be more concerned about the oil tank within the building first. This is a fire risk and could dictate what type of installation, if any, is required. Is there a risk of vapour? What ventilation is available? Is zoning required ? Should any installation be intrinsically safe. I would...

    Light Switches in Bathrooms

The Regs don't talk about "bathrooms" anymore. It's now a room containing a bath or shower. What about a bath or shower in a large bedroom? See quite a few these days. Are you suggesting you wouldn't fit a socket or light switch in there? Why are so many electricians stuck in the past? Poor...

    Max length of meter tails

I was always led to believe that meter tails, as the name implies, were just that. Ie. Short lengths from the meter to your first local termination, whatever that might be. Anything else after that are distribution circuits.

Electrician Jobs Electrician needed for small commercial project (Manchester)

Hi Danny I would imagine that a realistic cost benefit analysis on spending this amount, (probably a lot more than your estimate) on on a 700 sq ft restaurant (how many covers ?) Would conclude no. Excavations of city centre streets are fraught with difficulty, no idea what you may find out...
