Funny how things change in time
I was looking through some of the early posts in the tools section and it seems that back in 2008 voltsticks were the best thing since sliced bread,
Most useful thing I found about them was when my kids were toddlers they loved them , sat quietly for ages...
We've all seen this sort of stuff before
You can't trust some people to do up their own shoelaces!
I think it's genetic some people just can't do it, they know this but don't give a @#!$
not just Electrical Trainee's as I have met a few very conscientious ones,
It happens across the board we've all met...
Funny story re snow
Few years ago I worked for a small firm
They won a decent size social housing contract their first and merged with another firm who weren't great to work for!
Anyway had this supervisor who'd blagged his way into the job after doing his NVQ2 and working in City's for a...
I was in Ireland last year during the snow and I know we say the UK grinds to a halt
I think we cope fairly well for a country that only has Snow intermittently, not enough to have proper measures in place although this may change as we seem to be getting it more regularly now
Things slow...

So many manufacturers and No real standardisation in sizes
I think length and width is not that different but the shape of shoes and toecaps vary a lot
I've bought a pair which have been good
Bought another pair the same the following year and couldn't wear them!
Used to wear Caterpillar and...
I've got a relative serving RAF regiment and he said the boots issued now are best he's ever had
choice of 3 types and with that different widths available , he's supposed to be getting me a pair for non work purposes
I am using a pair of Grisport contractors now
Very good boots lasted well but I find if I'm moving around a lot they're pretty good
But when I'm stationary for long periods my feet hurt/ ache a lot after and feel cold, tried lots of different insoles which improve things but after a while same...
Hello Gents I've got pretty wide feet think flippers and a touch of plantar fasciitis or policemans heel from working on concrete floors for years and I'm constantly looking for boots which don't cripple me
I recently tried a make I hadn't tried before "Solidgear" made by Hultafors
( same...
One of the best cheap tool bags I had was a hard bottom Plano cost around £20 pretty tough and lasted well
I just hated digging in it for tools all the time
I work with controls so I get away with lugging a Veto MC for hand tools (no hammers or anything big required) with an Veto MB meterbag clipped on the side
I use a separate bag for numbers, ferrules and other consumables
A lot of people comment on it's small size but it's packed with 12 kg...
I worked for a while for a company doing maintenance/ installations on concrete plants
One company insisted in their safety rules, RAMS etc that we were to use a non contact method of testing for dead when doing Safe Isolation on equipment and plant
I was issued a volt stick with proving unit...
There is a good pdf online
"Trade of Electrician Motor control course"
Any Irish Sparks will recognise it
Which I'm sure you'll find helpful with good explanations of basic controls and components
I've been using a folding rule for last few years after I got given some in Germany
I like them , good for some things not so good at others but pretty cheap to replace
Plus I used to lose tape measures to people wanting to borrow a tape
"just for a minute "
Tend to look at a folding rule and...
Ok delayed update here
Managed to get the job all done , very hard going though hence the delay of responding , actually made me quite ill thru heat exhaustion and constantly straining in tight spaces trying to get it done!
I glanded as normal with locknuts with the homemade serrations
And...
Yes they're just bog standard metallic stuffing glands
Basicly the guy doesn't want to redo the job, I made sure the French customers electrical Engineer knew I thought it was a load of rubbish and advised him to ask for proof of this , I thought he would press this but he's been away now on...
No slots,
I've done that myself before on a temporary job running single cables from a generator to a steel enclosure indoors acting as a JB just for testing a machine
I could be wrong but I have never heard of any gland which stops this being a problem

The load isn't huge our engineers who are controls engineers massively oversized the cables ( I've had words)
This will make you laugh they basicly add up all MCB ratings in the panel no diversity at all they've obviously never been involved in quoting
This isn't our normal job but we've been...
