Purely by amazing coincidence, I visited a job today where the lady wanted A light repositioned, the switch also repositioned, and there was a "dangling" 2 gang switch which switched 2 lights, and had absolutely no back box, merely the switch face plate and a totally open back. All fairly...
It's unlikely to be 100%accurate, but it is a very interesting question.
I, being retired, won't get out of my bed for a small hourly rate. This is partly because I don't do much work anyway, do a fair amount of pro bono stuff, and set my charge according to the ability to pay of the client and...
Coring? Use a mains powered drill. Battery ones are amazing, but don't wear them out needlessly. A 240V drill will make much lighter work of it, and they are not expensive compared with replacing a burnt out cordless. Obviously, if you don't have mains power, you have no choice, but if you do...
I hate those non-payers!
A couple of months back, after asking for payment several times, for an installation of smokes/heats, I went to the house all smiles and said I'd come to do the post-installation check. Removed all 6 units from their bases and left with them in my bag. Now they can't let...
Very amusing thread, this! 2 prong voltage tester and proving unit...invaluable. Keep your man safe at all times. The most important thing is to be able to prove a circuit is dead, thus keeping him alive.
Thanks to all! I had assumed, wrongly, that the number would be called up on the screen, but seeing the barcode and number below clinched it. I checked the other 5 meters in the cupboard and of course all have different numbers. Now to do battle with GESA!
I really appreciate the assistance...
Thanks, @James
I don't have a bill to refer to unfortunately hence my enquiry as to whether I might be able to get it from the meter itself.
The situation is that the agent who looks after the place actually gets the electricity usage billed to his own bank account, and simply adds it to his...
This is a pic of my electricity meter for my Spanish apartment. I can cycle through the screens using the orange button, however I am trying to find an identifying "Meter Number" so I can go to the electricity supplier to arrange a change of payment method. Any clues gratefully received!
There are quite a few hinges which transfer the power supply, so maybe use on the loft hatch.
This is just one example of many, and some are from very reputable manufacturers.

Much as I love Quinetic stuff and use it a lot, I have had mixed results with the dimmers which seem to be rather fussy about what they work with, so it's always worth doing a trial with just one before buying a load of them.
Personally, i dislike dimming lights anyway, but i know others are...
How long is it? Could you cut it up into manageable lengths and I could join it up again later?
My builder, years ago when I was having a conversion built to my house, was putting in an RSJ and at the exact point of hoisting it into position the architect arrived. He looked at the beam and said...
I think the bluetooth idea on the Hager AFDDs may well be a way forward, but as Mr Savery experienced, it's no use having bluetooth tech built in if the AFDD doesn't actually work. His testing technique may be open to question, but his test rig caused the Fusebox and Siemens ones to trip. A...
@littlespark I knew there were a couple of Glasgow folk on here but I wasn't aware of more than that. I seldom look at the whereabouts of posters who contribute regularly. I am aware of quite a number of Scotland-based members, just not specifically Glasgow.
@Shanna I joined the forum to learn...
