so straight to the point these are the qualifications I did back in those times however, I did not do an nvq lvl 3 am2 an such because It was hard finding a apprenticeship or electrician or company to work for and it didn't help that I didn't have a car back then.

Electrical Installation C+G (7202) Level 1 (2015 – 2016)
Electrical Installation C+G (2365) Level 2 (2016 – 2017)
Electrical Installation C+G (2365) Level 3 (2017 - 2018)

ECS Health and Safety Assessment (18/09/2018)
CSCS Labourer card.
July - October 2022
Work experience with an Electrician (stopped because travelling far was a problem etc and I wanted to work to make money for a car)

at this point there was alot of stuff coming to mind such as getting nvq and building a portfolio when I don't have a car or electrician to work with to build it. So I then just got a job in IT and started working for cpl yrs.

Now I want to get back into Electrics, I have a car and I am doing work experience with an electrician which is 99% domestic (installing emergency lights, smoke alarms, sockets and lights etc, but I want to know what I need to aim or go for next since I am working with him for free I don't want all this exp i pick up to go to waste. (ideally I would like to work as a domestic electrician)

Hi Baza890,

To get started, simply contact a training center to enroll in the 2357 NVQ (Portfolio) program. You already meet the prerequisites, though you’ll need to obtain an up-to-date BS 7671 Wiring Regulations certificate (typically a one-week course).

The portfolio will take approximately 6 months to 2 years to complete, depending on your pace. Most of it will involve domestic work, but you’ll need to include a few small three-phase jobs to satisfy the commercial requirements.

Once your portfolio is complete, you’ll need to sit the AM2 assessment. Upon passing, you’ll be eligible to apply for a Gold Card and register with a CPS Scheme.

That said, make sure you’re gaining plenty of experience again. Six years away from the trade is enough to leave knowledge gaps, which can often be more hazardous than having no knowledge at all. Take the time to read, study, and get on-site practice with a qualified and more importantly a skilled electrician.

Wishing you all the best on your journey,
Laurie
