Ok.
I'm thinking a contactor has a control circuit, which would operate said contactor. Whereby you could isolate the control circuit. But does that safely isolate the circuit, like a standard isolator would do. What does BS7671 say about isolation?
I worked as a subby on student let refurb, converting from 3 bed terraced house to 5 bed student house. Your pics reminded me. The house was probably 2-300 years old. The muck/dust in the floor/ceiling voids was something else, like grey soot. Place was completely gutted. Learnt to wait until...
Have you actually found out how you will get this additional work 'signed off'. It sounds like this is part of some building work, that may be under planning or a building notice? Have you spoken to your LBC about this?
And get yourself one of these, if you've not already got one;

Builder are the creme de la creme. Have you done much work for these?
The short time I worked for a pair, they wouldn't let me quote the client direct. Thats because they wanted to add their own little mark up. Thats why your price is too high for them.
Although I'll admit to using crimps on 6242y cable (if its that) on rare occasions, alternative jointing method would be preferable, e.g. wago box in ceiling void.
Temporary installation needs careful planning and in the long term might end up costing more than a full rewire. OP caught between a rock and a hard place, if they haven’t the funds.
Has the sale gone through yet @Timc101 ? If not the rewire shoutdoor be reflected in the sale price.
I think the usb charger thing was down to poor quality products, which includes the socket outlet, not just the usb charger, if I recall. I would use electrical accessories from a reputable manufacturer, then the usb charger shouldn’t be a problem.
I’ve also used those spacers before in such...
To be far, when I did kitchen refurbs, the kitchen manufacturer never advised on positioning of electrical outlets in their kitchen unit plans. That would be down to the company commissioned to do the install, with guidance from a competent electrician.
Commercial place I work, we use several local contractors for small works, and my work requisitions are definitely being put on hold. Only emergency work is being put through.
Could the 'power cable' the manufacturer be referring to, is the local cable installed between controller and led tape?
I've had issues with Phillips Hue tape, and 3rd party extension leads I've bought off eBay.
