Hi James,
This is something I have struggled with too.
Neutral is connected to earth so it is at zero (ish) volts to earth.
What happens at the light (for example), for the voltage to change from 230v to 0v?
I realise it is more than just what is happening at the light, as if you disconnect the...
Devastating.
Some time back she came to visit me for the day. I was struggling with a job and she came down for the whole day to walk around the site and talk it through with me. She point blank refused any kind of payment.
I asked back then if I could mention it on the forum, but she didn't...
I tried using my cordless 18V Makita SDS to chase out a few chases on my first rewire a number of years ago. It didn't go well. The batteries run out of power fairly quickly.
I would use a cordless SDS for chasing out plaster, or if I needed to get rid of a small amount of stone or brick...
As above, you need to get the electrician on board now. If they feel you are a sensible person, with a high degree of DIY knowledge, they 'may' be happy giving some advice about which cables etc, and then come and do the second fix.
I personally wouldn't.
Quick reply!
But the 78.6A is the max demand for the whole system. This current is shared between 2 RCD's. Neither RCD will have 78.6A going through them.
I'm guessing you must see this already as it's really obvious, so you must have something else on your mind?
You could easily split the...
Why don't you email BG? I'd be genuinely interested in the response.
They will just say 'with diversity it is fine', and I'm sure they would be right. However, what would be interesting is for them to show the diversity calculations, so I would specifically be asking for these.
Let us know how...
Left RCD
32A MCB - ground ring
20A MCB - cooker
6A MCB - first floor lights
Right RCD
32A MCB - first floor sockets
6A - Ground lights
6A - Combi boiler.
The above is realistic for a small house. The CU you have mentioned is likely to be suitable for many small houses or flats. I personally...
Just having a quick look on the net.
Minimum let go current levels are 6 - 10 mA
Max let go threshold (for 99% of us) is 22mA
I'm assuming the shock you got was from the water ingress around the live terminals which had caused a pathway to the metal spike.
Did you have a seizure or become...
I can't see any thread started on the amendment, this is because. ..
A) I've had one strong beer and haven't looked hard enough.
B) It's not terribly important.
C) No one has thought about it yet.
Is this going to have much of an effect on us?
Personally, I don't fit PV or battery installs. I...
I would really try and see where the water enters the house, to see if it is a blue plastic pipe, meaning no bonding required.
10 mins with an inspection camera could save you a lot of work.
I have recently fitted 6 outside lights, recessed into a wall. 2 of these have started to get a lot of condensation into them. From the picture you can see it all over the inside of the cover, but there are also droplets on the inside top of the light, and also a small amount of water in the...
Can you actually have an impedance reading between L-N as low as 0.01ohms?
Once we step outside of a residentially building my understanding drops hugely. However, if the reading is 0.01ohms then doesn't that mean the transformer would have to be (approx) 6.88m away. Can you have a transformer...
