Why are the lights not working!!!!!

I returned today. All the neutral fly leads were terminated correctly. It turns out there was intermittent continuity between the end of the fly lead and the neutral termination on the RCBO. Hence the 240V (actual voltage) on the neutral on occasion. New RCBO used :)

Why are the lights not working!!!!!

My instinct was to switch off the lights I had switched on, thinking the same as above, lost track of what I had switched on and off though. Again, rushing! I'm liking the N fly lead being casually terminated in the N bar (intermittently making contact).

Why are the lights not working!!!!!

Blimey, that's ridiculously obvious, I hate trying to do things quickly, without giving it the time and thought that is needed. Thankyou everyone for your thoughts (and for not telling me I'm a plonker).

Why are the lights not working!!!!!

Just popped in to a friends house on the off chance that I could quickly remedy some none working lights before heading off to work. Unfortunately it was all a bit odd! Over the past 2 years the ground floor lights have stopped working perhaps 3 times. They stop for either days or weeks then...

The work always comes in doesn't it!

Perhaps twice a year I get down to around 1 week of booked work and I get just a little jittery, not too much, just a little, but enough to make me start thinking about popping an ad in the local paper (if that is still a thing). Then, within a day or 2, or even a few hours, I have 2 or 3 large...

Anyone got any Megger probe tips?

Wasn't it you that gave me the spike kit Richy? Honestly, please don't go and check. I've discovered that normal leads fit in the actual unit. Thankyou though :-)

Hi there, any chance you could......

I agree Marvo. I have had one or two tingles of doubt about this customer. I 'think' he is OK though. I'll update if the story gets more interesting!

Anyone got any Megger probe tips?

I'm down to my last megger probe tip, having lost 2 of them. I keep going on line to buy some, but they only come in a set which is around £50 and I only need one or 2 tips. Does anyone have some floating around they don't use? Obviously happy to pay, including postage. Also, I've always...

Hi there, any chance you could......

I wish I could give you better news Westward, but I'm afraid not. It was a politely written paragraph, but to the point. The builder/handy man is now going to stop what he is doing and the customer has asked me what I would be happy with, and would I need to completely rewire what the other...

Hi there, any chance you could......

So I work out a quote for a customer. Two months later, nothing heard. That's fine, the customer is under no obligation to reply, although it would be polite. A couple of weeks ago he asks for another quote for some different work. I get it out to him straight away. No reply as yet. Today, he...

    Is there an IP68 socket?

I'll have to remember that one! Bit fiddly, but doable.

    Is there an IP68 socket?

Just got off the phone to the manufacturer. They had actually given the wrong advice to the customer. It was actually an IP66 socket. I don't think he actually new what the numbers meant!

    Is there an IP68 socket?

I'm installing a socket for an outside pump. Pump is situated in a small well. The MI say an IP68 socket should be installed at the top of the well for it to plug in to. It is a standard 3 pin plug. I'm sure something isn't quite right here. I can't find an IP68 socket and can't believe there...

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

We never quite know the full picture do we. I remember quoting around £600 for changing quite a few sockets and switches. It seemed alot, but it would have taken quite some time. Also, you know that 10% of them are going to go wrong, threads disappear on the lugs, screws snap, you need to use...
