I'm fairly sure that would trip RCD instantly, as part of the 3 wire no-trip test is a higher current L-N test, at least that is true on the 15xx series.
While I have more testers of various ages that I know what to do with, I don't have anything that does a 2 wire no-trip loop test.
Normally this doesn't bother me as in the past I've observed such tests are unreliable and rarely repeatable.
The other day I had a commercial testing job with lots...
Correct
L-E, either could win.
N-E, MCB wouldn't trip.
Insulation Resistance testing is the best way. Also an earth leakage clamp meter can help.
The common suspects are water ingress into outside lights, and anything with a heating element.
The other thing - does it seem likely there is 155m of cable from the CU to these bedrooms and back?
What sort of property is this?
Was it a calibrated tester you used?
For clarity, assessing an existing installation is a very different ball game to designing, installing and initial verification of a new installation - in the latter case I would ensure VD rules are met.
Your questions keep flipping between the two scenarios!
Just because you judge something...
I don't think there's a generic answer. We're not robots! EICRs are a judgement on safety and risk based on experience (I'm very much still learning and will be until I retire). It would depend on how it's being used or is likely to be used, as discussed above.
I don't disagree. Bring back the 14th edition!
My opinion: If otherwise compliant and appearing fit for purpose, C3 if I thought there was no reason it couldn't be 32amp, otherwise I might just put a Note to document that I'd noticed it.
That sounds like a great and fun opportunity - real world testing is certainly different to the college rig!
In the real world I'd be looking at the actual loadings. If I was very worried, I'd probably be looking for a way to get a distribution circuit with very low resistance nearer the...
In brief, a ring final circut is an exception to the normal rule than the cable can carry at least as much current as the protective device.
The one and only reg (look up 433.1.204) sets out the conditions you can break the normal rule, and part of those conditions are a 30 or 32 amp device...
Light that buzzes in the rain.... RCD trips....you don't have to be a genius to suspect that the new addition is faulty, not installed correctly, or simply not up to the job. It had probably had the chance to dry out a bit by the next day.
What do you think of it's construction; can water get...
If strictly complying with regs, a ring final circuit can only have a 30 amp or 32 amp protective device.
You are allowed to increase the cable CSA beyond 2.5 sq mm though, to reduce your resistance and hence volt drop.
In your case if Zs is met, you have to ask how much is likely to be drawn...
I always take the front off shower isolators a 2nd time after I'm finished and re-tighten the terminals, invariably they can be tightened further.
All that to say - it's worth re-checking your work.
Shower isolators are probably the most difficult domestic accessory to install, especially if...
Being honest this all sounds like a series of red herrings to me.
The original sparks disconnected shower for a reason, presumably because they had grounds to believe it was faulty or dangerous.
The 2nd sparks fitted a new shower and after some confusion made it work.
Good result?
Without...
As a point of interest, you can see the Megger X1 delay in action in this video, though in some cases it is edited out!
4 mins 46 secs shows a 250v IR test. It's painful!
On my 1553 you start to see the digital representation of the needle move immediately, and as I said above the old Robin...
This is the stuff that the boss allows in the house.... I've been allocated one ikea compartment for "my junk"
The rest is in a box in the loft. I'm still trying to sell the idea of an illuminated shelf in a display cabinet, but we've been married 24 years and it hasn't become a 'major...
Please can someone buy this so I can stop being tempted! I have the BR4 in yellow plastic and the 18C in British Green, and I really don't need another one.... but it's so lovely and such an amazing machine and actually useful if your MFT batteries ever run out, and can do things no MFT can...
It honestly comes down to the assessor in question. A lot of them are not direct Napit employees, but consultants, and expectations can vary a bit.
My usual assessor is brilliant, helpful, and likes tea. Don't be scared to say "I'm not sure off top of head but I know where to find that...
