i don't have any college pics but heres a couple from the first loft conversion I did, nearly all of it on my own, had a bit of help on the testing (gets it done quicker) the guy in the pic his name is slim he's the chippy, nice guy and no there not my wires hanging down in a mess lol -

How come some rcd's......
some older houses have been converted from say 3 small houses to a single property but may still retain the other c/u's. Beware of multiple supplies & back fed supplies for who knows what reason. It may be that he doesn't mean that the main switch has been opened but just one purticular... -
Light switch
the problem is understanding where the supply is coming from, the wiring as jason said is fine like that but if its a spur off of the ring then it should have an fcu before u go to the switch or the light where ever the circuit first goes to. More likely its a spur or end of the lighing... -
